RIP: Don S. Davis (1942-2008)

Post by mappster »

Don S. Davis, most well known as General Hammond in Stargate SG:1, has passed away.
Dear Fans and Friends of Don S. Davis,

So many of you have been touched by not only the work and art of Don S. Davis, but by the man himself, who always took the time to be with you at the appearances he loved, that it is with a tremendous sense of loss I must share with you that Don passed away from a massive heart attack on Sunday morning, June 29th.

On behalf of his family and wife, Ruby, we thank you for your prayers and condolences. A family memorial where Don's ashes will be scattered in the ocean will take place in a few weeks, and should you wish to, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in Don's memory.

This is horrible. I loved him in Stargate, and in the interviews I've read with him he came across as a charming, intelligent man. And 65 is damn too young.

He will be missed.

I'd enjoyed watching him in Twin Peaks as Maj. Garland Briggs, the USAF officer who had his own small part to play in the investigations conducted by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper.

Only 65...

I bet the next new earth ship we see will be the U.S.S. George Hammond

An episode of Atlantis will probably be dedicated to him, as well.

A fitting tribute.

Well shit, that is so awful to hear, he was integral to SG-1's early success, 65 is not so old these days and to think a ultra cheesy Uwe 'toilet' Bowl movie was his last role. :(

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Easily the most believable reoccurring General in the series (from my non-professional point of view). He will be missed. RIP.
It's Jodan, not Jordan. If you can't quote it right, I will mock you.

I had the good fortune to meet him briefly and he was a very polite and down to earth guy. Rest in Peace.

If only I could find a picture of him in the command chair of the Prometheus. That's where he became a true badass.

I expect Continuum will be dedicated to him (He's in it after all). And well he deserves it.

Clear skies, General

I had the good fortune to meet him a couple years ago when we had him at I-CON. Really nice guy, polite and quietly funny.
RIP.
