So...Raj, I decided to rock the boat a little and give you an opportunity to shine your diplomaticalal skillz ;)

The Foreign Minister will obviously be asking why a normal, well-adjusted Indophal student would be stockpiling weapons and tactical gear in his apartment, and staking out strategic sites in Astoria.

BTW, Coiler, you really could try doing something with my spies. It would be really cool to have some Gary Powersesque diplomatic crisis :D

Wouldn't they have dipomatic immunity since they're working from your embassy, though?

Yeah, they would. But you can still throw them out, or arrest and hold them for some time (oh! We didn't know they were your diplomats! What were they doing at 2 A.M. meeting with a national traitor?) etc.

Only if they forget their diplomatic passports. Surely your RIS agents aren't that sloppy? :P

I would certainly hope Kulinsky only chose the best, seeing as Coilerburg is soon going to be crawling with UAR counterintelligence agencies :P

I also believe the standard procedure is to say nothing but scream "Call the ambassador! I am a PeZookian diplomat!", and deny everything even if they caught you red-handed, have a video and a hundred witnesses :D

EDIT: Ow! I'm jealous of Shroom's fantastic fireworks!

...at least I had a nicer skyline for them to illuminate! Nyah! :P

On ship sizes, we are limited by narrow natural waterways. The largest open sea we have is about the size of the Mediterranean, and approaches in & out are all narrow straits.

For a variety of reasons, we would probably all disavow super-heavy ships-- after all, there's no one country we could ship to that would have the economy to buy all its goods at once. Plus, if one of those super-heavies got sunk in a narrow waterway, it would tie up traffic and be near impossible to salvage (at least in any timely manner).
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

Actually, there are other problems. If the straits are too narrow, it makes it difficult for CVBGs to pass through them. As it is, I believe a tight formation is required just to sail through the Straits of Malacca.

Fingolfin, something has come up and I have to leave. You can make the next post and we can continue tomorrow or later tonight when I come back.

Also: If Sheps missile killed all the dinosaurs then me and you are the only ones who have the live specimen. :D

Unless somebody else went in there and I missed it.

I plan to make a post on that soon enough. Just let me finish writing it.

Well it was inevitable that a few operatives would be caught going about their business. Luckily for Treadstone's man you didn't find his off site cache of explosives. Basically Treadstone mainly tells its people to use bomb and sniper attacks if they are activated, as these are lower risk.

My diplomat will be totally in the dark, as only a handful of people in the government know about Treadstone (All the people actually running Treadstone know more, but they are all hard bitten mercenary types who don't talk to outsiders.)

This actually gives us an opening for an interesting investigation. Indhopal's and Pezookian Federal agents looking into Treadstone in a joint investigation perhaps? Of course the investigation will likely be sabotaged (as its findings will more than likely be leaked to Treadstone) and Treadstone would likely consider the whole affair a good field test of their methods. Of course the Federal agents in both nations will all think it is a real investigation. That sound interesting to you?

I don't know why that one blast would have killed all the dinos. It may have cut down the population some, but remember, it wasn't a warhead being tested-- it was the drive system. The only real damage came from the hard landing into the earth-- and what radiation leaked in the area.

Sorry about the "block o' text" state of the union address, it's really just a summary of recent things-- folks shouldn't feel obligated to chew through it all if they don't wish.

Actually I am working on my own laser system, but I suppose I will share some of the tweaks to the system with Coyote when I am done with it. From the way it looks, the system needs more range to deal with.... more rockets with nuclear motors...

We need to develop and deploy a THEL-armed stratellite.

Think about it. The Mach 5 cruise ramjets are awesome because they travel very low and very, very fast. Which means that while detection is easy (giant thermal bloom ahoy!), interception is not. So we need to mount our defenses high to increase horizon range.

Also, take a page from Stuart's playbook and place radar reflectors on power lines and hills to confuse their targeting systems. The stratellites can also work to jam guidance signals and radar.

EDIT: Raj, I'm totally cool with a joint Treadstone investigation. Technothriller!

A THEL armed satellite? I suppose that might work, but the ranges will be too long. It's hard enough to get a laser beam to focus on a target 1 km away, but 1000 km away? A best I can hope that we can reflect power off a parabolic dish and focus the beam some km away. Remember that the laser beam will have to be KW/mm^2 to kill a hardened target.

And I will make a note to put lots of radar reflectors on power lines and so forth...

Hmm... Actually, I was thinking of deploying barges. Nuclear powered barges. Housing an Aegis system, plus a host of defence systems, including lasers, Standard Missiles and so forth. You might recall a post I made not long ago about my government considering it. These are just like the old blockships.

Deploying a stratellite would be just added redundancy.

A THEL armed zeppelin is tempting, but dangerous. THEL is a chemical laser and requires a lot of nasty compounds to work and having it hovering overhead is something that will panic civilians. Even a natural disaster could spill hazardous crud all over.

Best to put THELs on airplanes (they fit on C-130s now) or on ships, and then wait until there is a threat, then deploy them where needed.

I like the radar reflectors on th elandscape, though. Hmmmm....

Well, the issue would be that if Shep programmed these guys to do a high altitude dive, the C-130 must be high enough to shoot it.

I would say, we might have to house it in say.. one of those Gulfstream G550s and a C-130. The Gulfstream deals with high altitude, and the C-130 a sea skimming one. Though I find the idea of a barge tempting.

Well, what fits in a C-130 also fits in, say, 737's, B-52's, etc.

Ahh I see. That makes sense. So what do you think, how bad is the damage? Can they survive on their own?

Fingolfin nice post. I'll do the next one.
