It's because both series drawn their inspiration from the same early 20th century art style.

Also beside making the look distinct I thinking that the secondary objective is to end up in a Pixar movie, a noble goal.

(FYI Remember how long TF2 was in devolpmen, they picked that art style before the Incredibles had even one frame rendered)
So? Unless you've got dated concept sketches, you can't argue that they didn't take a card from Pixar's deck here. Remember that the original concept for TF2 was a game along the lines of the Battlefield series, complete with vehicles and realistic graphics.

Bean is right, this needs to be made as a Pixar movie.

Did you watch/listen to the in-game developer commentary? They named the art style explained how they switched from realistic to Norman Rockwell style in 2002, there are dated sketchs around the same time of the first Incredibles trailer was released. Of course TF2 was in development for another three years after the DVD was already out.

(Note in the interest of historical accuracy nothing was released for a good five years between 2000 and 2006, what I'm referring to is the special edition art sketchs which are floating around the net with 2003 dates on them, not as in were released in 2003)

But Hotfoot, you might admit, just for one tinny second that if you draw your inspiration from the same early 20th century artists, then you just might produce the same style of game? If you and another bit of media both "borrow" from the same source, your end product will look similar?

*Edit, to Credit Loomer, I'd love to see the Sniper or the Demoman in any potential Incredibles 2 movie.

Incredibles? No, Team Fortress 2 should be it's own movie. It'd be the best and bloodiest CG movie conceived.

No, because I didn't care about it that much. I mean, it's a cool game, sure, but i wasn't super-excited about it and feel a need to learn everything about it.

If there are dated sketches before the public release of Incredibles art style, then that supports your position. However, simply the fact that the game's been in development since the late 90's by itself is not evidence of such a fact, which is what I was pointing out. Don't try to blow this up into something bigger than it is: I was commenting that the length of development does not necessarily have anything to do with how long they've had the current art style. The only way to actually provide supporting evidence of a statement of when they took a specific art direction is through some kind of documentation, either sketches with dates or some kind of memo for direction.

Fair enough, that's really what I was expecting. There's no reason for Valve to hide when they did their sketches.

...well no shit, it can happen. However, it comes down to Occam's Razor: which is more likely, that two teams came to the same conclusion WRT art design with no influence on each other, or that one team saw the work of the other team and said "Hey, let's do something like that!"

It's not that the former is impossible or even unlikely, but it is less likely than the latter scenario, because we've seen imitation happen all the time. It's not a bad thing, it just happens.

I can't read that right now, but I'll check it out later. If it indicates that there is supporting evidence beyond the laughable "TF2 was in development longer", awesome. If not, oh well.
