Blame Zor :D

I suggest we up the distance to 50 000 km at the very least. That way the thing won't fall on our heads, or disintegrate and then fall on our heads :D

A couple notes:

The depot actually weighs more than 400 tons. That's just the cryogenic propellant stored inside. It's also has significant amounts of infrastructure so it can be expanded. And of course, there's the docking facilities so that fuel can actually be pumped to other spacecraft.

The MESS will have a system similar to SCORECARD in couple months, game time. It has major differences from Bean's system, however. More details to be revealed after IOC.

Third, I'm acquiring AALMs from Phong, which should provide the same M5 performance as other systems.

Fourth, Rhea is more proof that the system was created, and the creationists are right. Makes tidal power fairly useful for energy production though.

Lastly, there's another system being developed, which is a good bit faster than Pluto (though it can't do it at low altitude).

Holy shit, that makes it a dual-planet system. The two bodies may actually share an atmosphere!

It wouldn't take too much effort to make an airplane that could fly there and back. Or a zepp.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

What's an AALM? Googling yields.. only "Anti Air Launched Motor" but not what it really does.

Uh...Coyote? 5000km, not 500. It would make little sense to have a 2000km moon orbiting 500km over a planet :P

Think about it - if Rhea orbits at 5000 kilometers, as Zor posted, then we have a CATACLYSMIC event on our hands.

Since it is, you know, SLOWING DOWN. There is still atmosphere at that altitude, meaning that Rhea will eventually crash into Terra.

Plus, there are only 4000 kilometers between the surface of Rhea and Terra. I made a visualization of the system using Orbiter, and it looks, um...weird :D
Alright, I want a tri-lunar system to remain. Tell me how to fix the orbits.

Moving it up to 50 thousand kilometers takes it past the Roche limit and comfortably outside of the atmosphere ; I'm not sure how Rhea would interact with Chang-No...but it's small, so it won't cause anything to annihilate itself.

BTW, the view of Rhea from the surface of Terra is killer. I'll post some pictures soon :D

Coiler I hate to keep being the guy that harps back on realism but operating even 2 subs is going to cost on the order of 50-60mil/year EACH. with a viable military budget in the neighborhood of 500mil or so that's a HUGE fuckign chunk of change.

phong, do you want the frigates? Does anyone in the MESS want them? Otherwise, they'd be target practice for my ramjet missiles from Red Technocracy.

Since people are selling them for $50M each, I'll buy as many as people are willing to sell.

Alright... lemme wait and see if anyone in the MESS wants them, and you can take the remainder at 50million ( I forgot the price tag I placed for them initially).

Shep, didn't expect you to be so obsolete.

In any case, good luck building cosmodromes and the Energia launchpads ;) the costs would be hideous for a FOBS deployment.

Once again this proves the UAR is still living in the 1960s - FOBS is useless when ASAT weapons can hit targets anywhere from 100 to 800 km orbits, and all FOBS dispensers or warheads are trackable.

Unlike the KVs, which are hard to track and/or hit, FOBS warheads would be easy to destroy on descent orbits.

Shep, I may not have said much of the equipment I have in the Diocese, but it includes signal intelligence equipment, including a small SAM detachment, and a UAV of that sort is hardly even remotely stealthy.

I had to make this at least a paper project :P
In hopes of placating the military, Korolyov proposed military applications for the N-1. There had been a study conducted in the 1960s under the code name Raskat envisioning a missile that could carry seventy warheads and so be capable of destroying nearly every major U.S. city with a single missile. Korolyov offered a similar scheme, in which the N-1 could carry and deliver up to one hundred nuclear weapons against different cities. This system was never seriously considered, since it was doubtful that a guidance system could be developed with existing technology that would permit the weapon to accurately release such a large number of warheads.

I'm pretty sure that's not a UAV. Of course it's still hardly close to stealthy.

I dunno.

I'm going to call a VTC and ask his Imperial Majesty personally about that. The whole "potentially dragging the MESS into a shooting war" doesn't fly with me.

Shep does a lot of crazy things, but I doubt he's bother violating their airspace. I mean, the thing has two weeks of endurance, he can go around.

EDIT: Uh, Stas, this wasn't a UAV.
