Should a radio station play "Silver Springs" if playing "Rumours" cover to cover?

Yes, the band feels it is a part of the album.

Wait, wait: there are songs on "Rumours" besides "Go Your Own Way" and "The Chain?"

Is "Silver Springs" a part of "Rumours?"

Post by Qwerty 42 »

For those who aren't familiar, Fleetwood Mac's quintessential classic "Rumours" captured album of the year nods when it debuted, beating out the Eagles' "Hotel California," just to give a grasp of how big it was.

Now, in the original vinyl pressing, the track listing reads thusly:

1. Second Hand News
2. Dreams
3. Never Going Back Again
4. Don't Stop
5. Go Your Own Way
6. Songbird
7. The Chain
8. You Make Loving Fun
9. I Don't Want to Know
10. Oh Daddy
11. Gold Dust Woman

With the advent of CDs, the band now had more room for material, and all CD pressings have this track listing.

1. Second Hand News
2. Dreams
3. Never Going Back Again
4. Don't Stop
5. Go Your Own Way
6. Songbird
7. Silver Springs
8. The Chain
9. You Make Loving Fun
10. I Don't Want to Know
11. Oh Daddy
12. Gold Dust Woman

Ordinarily, this could be written off as a simple "bonus track" common to CD pressings of old albums if not for two factors:

1. "Silver Springs" is right in the middle of the blessed album.
2. Most importantly, Fleetwood Mac considers "Silver Springs" to be a part of the album, even if the song originally did not appear on the award winning vinyl. Owing to the space constraints of vinyl, the song was cut.

So, to frame this in the form of a scenario:

If you are a DJ on a radio station, and are tasked with playing all of "Rumours" cover to cover, would you play "Silver Springs" or not?

I'm just soliciting opinions on the matter.

If the song was originally recorded with the rest of the album and has the same feel, and the artists consider it part of the original album, then I would say yes.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.
