Yep it is Luceno; who's work I enjoy. Then again, I also tend to enjoy Allston and Denning, and it seems that even a good author can find little to do with the premises they're given. I'm not holding my breath for Millennium Falcon

Denning I admit kinda let me down with LOTf, but a jealous lil part of me still wants to blame LFL in general and Traviss in particular for that fiasco. I still enjoyed much of Betrayal despite the crappy foreshadowing.

I have to admit I am heartened that receently we've seen a continuation of a slew of decent authors: Allston's still around, Denning is (even if he sucks at writing, ,he usually does prety well on teh techie side), Luceno of course, and we have Reaves.

I agree, however seeing Traviss signed on for the Clone Wars movie/premier novelization really breaks the deal for me. I'll buy Reaves' and Stover's books. As I said, I like Luceno but I don't think even a good author can do much with the post-NJO material, as we saw what DelRey/Traviss/LFL managed to do to LOTF despite Allston and Denning writing 2/3 or it. I feel like those two spent half their time trying to undo the shit Traviss wrote in.

Reaves and Stover are rare bright spots, possibly saved by virtue that they're not writing books that take place on the road to nowhere that is the post-NJO...

Nitpick, but that would be the syndicated strip, not the Marvel series.
"But there's no story past Episode VI, there's just no story. It's a certain story about Anakin Skywalker and once Anakin Skywalker dies, that's kind of the end of the story. There is no story about Luke Skywalker, I mean apart from the books."

The idea of Stover writing a Star Wars novel using Daley as inspiration is pure win. Caine Black Knife coming out in October just makes me even happier.

If Traviss is writing the novelization for the Clone Wars movie, that might actually not be that bad. Movie novelizations tend to be fairly restrictive as far as storyline goes, you end up having to retell the basic plot in another way. I think Traviss could pull that off and it might even be passable. We might have to put up some mando-wank, but I'll doubt that she can cram that much inthere without making the novel unreasonably long (remember, she injected her mando wank into more than HALF her LOTF novels, and the RC novels post HC tended to be even worse.)

If she gets an editor with balls, it could be good. And I have a feeling given the response to her last LOTF novel, the editors might just keep an eye on her this time.

Or, at least, I'm praying that.

If we're lucky she will be line-edited by GL as the movie novelizations were...

I'm willing to bet on two things:

1)There will be nothing about Mandos in the series.
2)Traviss will insert them into the novelization.

There isn't really.

Keff was probably thinking that they had named a new Sith Darth Culator in the book, and apparently didn't approve. ;)

Uh, sure there is. There is basically completely bupkis between the Rogue Squadron comics and the beginning of the Rogue Squadron novels, except for Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight (and its attendant sources like the DF novellas) and for what it is worth, The Glove of Darth Vader/"Jedi Prince" series. And featuring Luke, zilch from the end of the post-ROTJ Marvel run through to The Courtship of Princess Leia. Really, its the last significant gap in the post-ROTJ EU.

Plus the Mindor campaign isn't a new invention, it was already mentioned as the catalyst for Skywalker's retirement from the military in the original Essential Chronology, which was extrapolated from a line in the Dark Empire Sourcebook about Shadowspawn fighting to the death and a bit in The Courtship of Princess Leia about Han and Leia on a corpse-strewn battlefield on "Mindar" which the continuity authorities declared was meant to be Mindor.

All things considered, this is surprisingly well situated in continuity.
