"Black hole" is the new "niggardly"

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape."

Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

Al Sharpton needs to hop on the first plane to Dallas, forthwith!

No, just an uptight idiot with a penchant for seeing offence round every corner. Clearly "black" anything is the new "nigger". It's funny that this is never applied to white usage for words.

You know, I can at least understand the "niggardly" thing. This is just fucking retarded. Clearly Stephen Hawking is a racist and should be outcast from society, his books pulled from libraries, and his colleagues forced into sensitivity classes.

Ah, this brings back memories. Man that was a fun day when this one girl in my class was reading a book and noticed the word niggardly ot really depends on how you pronounce it determines if someone gets offended by it. But come on, black hole. I guess next will be blackball and blackmail.

It's actually quite common. Most of the hard-line creationists believe that Darwinism is a social policy rather than a scientific theory, and argue that science is immoral because it preaches racism and survival of the fittest.

I wouldn't mind, but the "survival of the fittest" line wasn't even a Darwin quote, and the actual Nazi who coined the phrase is hardly indicative of the inclinations of a neutral theory of science.

Some of these people could use their logic to say science is anti-human because hurricanes destroy all things in their path, people included. Clearly such theories if not thought up would make the world safer.

I can understand "niggardly", because I'd stop someone in their tracks and question that word if I was black and hadn't heard of it before. But black hole? C'mon, was this guy asleep through all science class and science reports in the media?

The white hole retort was funny though. The guy should have said that current physical observations haven't confirmed the existence of such objects, unlike black holes.

Frankly I find it perfectly believable. I've met more than enough black people with a massive chip on their shoulder about race that I have no doubts someone could be this much of a defensive asshole.

Actually it was worse than that...that much at least I could see some kind of logic in, twisted though it might be. This was to do with dark having negative connotations such as danger and the unknown...she felt that the notion of an absence of light with which to see things being called dark was something to do with racism...
