Super Bowl Commercials

Post by Master of Ossus »

Did the Super Bowl commercials really suck this year, or was it me? Usually, they're half the fun as advertisers struggle to one-up one another with funnier and more poignant adds. This year, I was only even moderately impressed with about a quarter or a third of the commercials, and most of those were flawed in more areas than they were strong.

It wasn't you..they sucked. The bud commercial with the guy and the third arm just wasn't funny.

Can't remember what it was for, but the best one by far was the one with some player I can't remember tackling people in an office.

There was the Reebok one: "You didn't put a cover on your TPS reports!" and a few others that were good. The FedEx/Castaway one was goofy...

Those were okay. I kind of liked the Smirnoff one where the guy intercepts the other guy on his way to a blind date so he can pick up on the girl, but they ALL used to be like that. What happened to them?

I liked the Bud Light one where the guy in the upside-down clown suit goes into a bar and drinks the beer through the clowns ass.

I also liked the one where the crab suddenly comes out of the shell and grabs the guy's ear.

I just saw the "notorious" Cat Fight Miller ad on regular TV...

Pretty stupid if you ask me. God, they really "advertised" the shit out of that useless junk.

The worst was when they cut from the fight to the guys in the bar. Could Miller have been any more self-absorbed? They might as well have shown their CEOs masturbating over six packs...

My favorites favorites are still:

The Tobasco commercial with the mosquito

The "freaky mouse" commercial where the guy slingshots a mouse to a lady's apartment

The old Budweiser frog commercials

I liked the "Girlfriend's Mother" commercial, and the Michael Jordan vs. his Younger Self was pretty cool, once I got it.

But my favorite of all time was the Jordan vs. Bird McDonalds commercial. ("Off the building, through the Overpass... Off the scoreboard, Nothing But Net.")

Yeah, Neo kicking 20 Agent Smiths ass at the same time with a metal pole and Hulk giant swinging a tank into the horizon are images that will be burned into my skull until those movies are released.

Remember the Herding Cats commercial? That was gold. But this year the best ones were the movie trailers.

Actually, another good one was the one with the guy trying to decide how to tell a girl that he liked both her and her roommate. He got really worked up and finally told her, and mid-sentence, she just says, "So why don't you just date us both?"

Plus the horses and the zebra one. The only other one that was funny was the guy who went for the last piece of pizza and go body tackled. :D

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
