Advanced Filter and Codec pack? WTF?

Every goddamn time I try to play a movie, there is this "Advanced Filter and Codec Pack" beginning to install itself. Thing is, that it never does.

It tries multiple times and it is not able to do so. I most just keep clicking "cancel" about four times.

Does anybody has any idea what this is?

1. Is this a movie file that you've played before with no problem on your machine?

2. Does the same thing happen for avi as it is for wmv files?

3. If you were able to play these files before, was there any catastrophic failure of your system recently? Any blue screen of death occurences? Virus attacks?

Edit: This is the Advanced Filter and Codec Pack, FYI.

I had this problem since I've got my comp reinstalled after it had its mofo fried.

I've downloaded that file and it still keeps trying to install itself, without the least success.

What type of movie files are you trying to play? There's a shitload of codec packs out there and unless the video you're watching is proprietary, there's probably a better alternative to download.
