No, they wouldn't, at least not until they became so persistent that it becomes very hard to write them off as coincidence. But if fleet C3 stacks (i.e. my main battle fleets are running around with some 95 C3I between them) then it's much less of a problem. With the prevalence of stealth ships, I think it's important to answer that question.

Stealth doesnt stack so nor should sensors for this purpose. Though even a subpar sensorship is useful for sweeping a small search area for stealthed vessels one supposes.

There's five pods total so i'm going to say that one pod is lingering around the Helios system in the Nashtar territory. The pod has more sensor gear than its dropped sats so makes a better eavesdropper and is probably lurking around a coms relay station to pick up tightbeam messages. As a less obviously hostile nation Nashtar is undergoing a risk assessment that got stuck in administrative limbo, ie data is being gathered but somehow the decision making has been put on hold by Chamaran high command.

Pending a final reply concerning trade, I'll post my readjusted production and be ready to go.

As an aside, the new rule concerning increased logistics and how they take away some maintenance costs should be added to the rules thread or wiki.

As it happens, the capital system is home to a full battle fleet, so we'll play some cat-and-mouse with frigates and sensor ghosts later. Technically if the ship's sensor rating equals the stealth rating of the stealthship, the stealthship is detected, but to make things interesting I won't turn the carrier's full sensor suite on it until I'm fairly certain something's up.

As for C3I stacking, I note that it's fleetwide C3 that counts for overcoming an opposing fleet's fleetwide D rating to determine if the fleet can be scanned (and stealthships in the fleet detected, incidentally), hence my confusion.

Well technical aside so far we've run it as you need more than equal in game (Melconian/Chamaran first contact at least)
And yeah C3 stacks for D it seems as D itself stacks.
Goody for cat and mouse, though i think the Chamarans are in the wrong position. Aside though it beats being bored as I need to wait for Ohma and Tanassin to fight battle 1 of the gender wars before i send my expedition and i suspect the invasion of the Chicago system will be a slow affair in RL time.

Yay, turn 2! Okay Tan, do you want to start the fight at Dayab ("incoming ships!" and all that), or should I?

Well here is a suggestion for stealth: Low C3I ships could likely detect stealth ships eventually I 'd say, especially at close range. But at fiurther ranges they would basically have not a prayer.

That was my thought with the search area. in the vastness of space a sensor picket doesnt have a hope of detecting a superstealthed ship but if its search can be narrowed down say by its massive but far slower supersensor carrying command ship then it stands a chance of finding the needle in the haystack. Even a level ten stealth ship will show up on a short ranged active ping.

C3 should stack with regards to overcomming D, but in terms of S it could handled in the same manner as I vs H, in which you go by the highest rating present, and any additional vessels equipped with C3 simply increase the scope of the area covered, rather than increasing the aggregate rating.

Another possibility is that multiple units with C3 do stack, but at a rate and manner less than a linear 1-to-1.

Small edit to my last game post; I decided I'd rather deploy the Lightning from Third Fleet rather than the Watchman from Second. Just a matter of my own internal bookkeeping. I doubt it matters to the rest of you; just explaining why the post is edited.

I don't mind you posting your arrival and any chest-beating the Doms want to do as they load the cannons, but I'd like to post the springing of the ambush myself.

(I'm also still on stand-by concerning the last bit of trade, so I might lag a bit in posting: not much, since the newly-produced units on both of our sides aren't going to be involved in this skirmish, yes?)

Yeah, the fourth Expeditionary force is still in Theta Mira.

And stage one begins. I await your decision as to whether you'll stick around to evaluate my combat sensor suites or not. :P

Of course, cause we're invisible dont ya know. Provided we dont actually run the propulsion system we've only got to worry about being in the same neighbourhood as the carrier and what are the odds of that in the depths of space? :D

Marvellous. Course that's going on in another system for now, the Chamaran pod will not do anything significant till day two and the opportunity to watch the staged battle between 1st and fifth fleet.

And after a couple days of work, I present the complete ship registry of the Republic Space Command.

This is a lot easier with the smaller fleet size; I believe it's the first time I've fully cataloged and named every ship in my fleet. :P

Well as I'm waiting on a response for goings on in the Chicago system, my mini faction the Company will be up to no good this turn  . I'll be posting on their actions presently.

By the way do we have a fully updated map with all the minifactions and such posted anywhere? Could we put one in with the quick reference thread (which I intend to put the Melconian's in eventually) or in the OOB thread?

Edit: Now the Company is on the prowl as well. THeir corvettes only attack unarmed merchants. Their destroyers could do more but their task right now is to gather inteligence more than raid. The Company's crews are profeesionals and carefully weigh the risks before attacking anything. They also try and stay as far away from military ships as possible  .

See, this is why I sent seven warships including a cruiser along with my first convoy to the Humanist Union. :P If they're using interdiction fields to just yank ships out of hyperspace, though, they're bound to net an escorted convoy eventually.

Oh but of course they'll run into military ships sometime. If anyone wants to encounter them feel free. Smaller military ships are the most likely to be encountered, as the Company would let ships with very large or powerfull drive signatures pass them by. They prefer small "tramp" merchant ships, at least in the case of the Corvettes. The two raiding destroyers could be a nasty surprise though, especially if they team up with a corvette or two.

Not nastier than the escort force I sent along, but it hardly matters; they'd see the Lightning coming light years away and probably let it pass, unless they want to take chances tangling with a 10 point base ship.

Hmm the Melodic silence awaits the show in the Helios starsystem.
I'm tempted to toss a random mininations worth of alien aggressors at anyone who's bored enough to want a fight with such as well.
