Two or more million years. MILLION. YEARS. before the war with the wraith. They could have spent hundreds of thousands of years in Pegasus working on a permanant cure before bothering to spread new life to its barren stars.Zac Naloen wrote:It's already established that they are capable of healing at least one other being without significant risk to themselves. I don't see any practical reason for them to leave the Milky Way UNLESS they have been healed themselves and seperated from the population. Frankly if they left the Milky Way whilst still infected and spawned Humans in the Pegasus galaxy that is fucking stupid because they'd be right back at square one again if the plague got into the general population. That seems incredibly unlikely. Watch Rising again. There's an ancient man talking to an infected woman, before getting on Atlantis and going with them. It's never been said that they left to flee the plague. They had the plague at that time, and must have taken it with them and cured it later.

I know what your saying, but it goes against statements in the show about why the ancients ascended i.e because they couldn't cure the plague.NecronLord wrote:Two or more million years. MILLION. There was clearly a population split at some point in their history, they didn't all go to pegasus and it doesn't make sense that only those that went to Pegasus managed to cure themselves completely.

as result of going there without sharing the knowledge with the Milky Way.

Quote? And unless it's coming from someone like Orlin (and even then, it's a bit iffy), we can probably consider it an incorrect assumption negated by further evidence.Zac Naloen wrote:I know what your saying, but it goes against statements in the show about why the ancients ascended i.e because they couldn't cure the plague.
Aside from Aiyana, there's no evidence they stayed behind, at all. There was clearly a population split at some point in their history, they didn't all go to pegasus and it doesn't make sense that only those that went to Pegasus managed to cure themselves completely.

Huh? There's been no evidence of any split between Pegasus ancients and MW Ancients.Zac Naloen wrote:as result of going there without sharing the knowledge with the Milky Way.

That was my point... if they cured themselves why didn't they share the cure with the Milky Way.NecronLord wrote:Huh? There's been no evidence of any split between Pegasus ancients and MW Ancients.Zac Naloen wrote:as result of going there without sharing the knowledge with the Milky Way.
The only actual supporting evidence I have is the Gateworld Omnipedia, mostly because I can't remember exactly which episode the statement was made in. I have vague recollections of Daniel reading it from a book which probably places it in season 9 but I can't be sure.

What makes you think they didn't, if there were any Ancients in permant residence still. I think it's safe to assume that Aiyana was in stasis at some point, and eventually, 'swept away' by the oncoming glacier that buried her outpost. Perhaps by the time (millions of years?) they had cured it, everyone who knew her was dead, or she was long lost in the ice when they came looking.Zac wrote:That was my point... if they cured themselves why didn't they share the cure with the Milky Way.
Daniel read it off the tablet, IIRC. But that tablet also claimed
That tablet, however, also makes mention of the Lost City being, well, lost. It's clearly written by survivors of Atlantis, even if it is in "one of the oldest dialects" of course, the real answer is that they've changed the mythology since then, but ultimately, what it says is still true.Full Circle wrote:It says the Ancients evolved from a race of humans that lived long before us. They were wiped out by a plague that was sweeping across the galaxy. Many learned to ascend, the rest died out. I have to go.
Their civilization was almost extinguished by the plague.
Eventually, [after war with the wraith, and millions of years of making exploding tumour machines] they were all either exterminated by one cause or another, or they had ascended.
That doesn't need to imply any big splits in their culture and such.

I never said it did, I said there was a split in population.
Those who left to go explore pegasus and those who stayed in the Milky Way with the plague and eventually become the first to ascend.

Necron Lord, there's nothing to dispute my version of events, just as there is nothing to dispute yours. We've just interpreted the available information in different ways.

There is no evidence for significant numbers of ancients (more than Aiyana, and perhaps some other wardens of little outposts) staying behind.Zac Naloen wrote:I never said it did, I said there was a split in population.
