Headset recommendations
Okay, my trusty Speedlink Medusa headset has broken and I need recommendations for a replacement.
I want something that's quite comfortable, and while I can get the Medusas still they were rather hot after wearing them for a while. Something with a good closed ear design, lightweight, and most important of all is a good mic.
5:1 sound is optional, as is force feedback, but I'd like a recommendation.

While I can't remember the model of my sennheiser's, I'll just give you a heads up that the new logitech headsets are all of pretty shoddy build standard, I had 3 break on me in a 12month period.

+1 I have a relatively cheap (less than 50$)Logitech headset. The left earphone stopped working a few months ago, and it's now dangling by the wire (plastic broke).Resinence wrote:While I can't remember the model of my sennheiser's, I'll just give you a heads up that the new logitech headsets are all of pretty shoddy build standard, I had 3 break on me in a 12month period.
Well, I got a Koss SB/49 headset recently, it seems ok. Can't say anything about reliability since I have had it only for two months, but at least the sound and mic quality are good. Also the earpieces are big and comfortable, and the headband is well cushioned. Unless the thing breaks in the next month or something, I'd say it's a good device .
EDIT: It's a normal stereo headset, no 5.1 or force feedback (not to mention I've got no clue what that would even mean on a headset ).

"Death before dishonour" they say, but how much dishonour are we talking about exactly? I mean, I can handle a lot. I could fellate a smurf if the alternative was death.

I've had people on SB recommend headsets costing from £50 up to £110, and that to me is just excessive. My old Medusas cost me £35 a while back with the amplifier unit, and that's kinda what I'm looking at. The Icemat Siberias apparently are decent but they're pricey.
The Koss's are available from Amazon UK for a reasonable price of £27, certainly far more realistic than £110.

Found them

The main reason I got these ones is because they have a single-piece frame, so no sides breaking off like 3 different logitechs of 2 different models did, the mic is of good quality and skype certified, they are fairly cheap, and they have HUEG pads on the earphones, so they don't hurt if you wear them too long.

What model are they?starslayer wrote:My Plantronics one has served me well, and they're available in the UK for £27. The mic's okay too. The earphones are big and comfortable, as is the rest of it.
The two I see on Amazon that are about that price are the DSP 550's and the 650 USB set.

I have been disappointed by the Logitech Precision Gaming Headset lately - the price went up by about $8 (from $20) for no explainable reason, and I've had several of them go bad on me - two due to the exact same problem; the right headphone decides to go out for some reason. The microphone of a third stopped working for some unknown reason as well.Resinence wrote:While I can't remember the model of my sennheiser's, I'll just give you a heads up that the new logitech headsets are all of pretty shoddy build standard, I had 3 break on me in a 12month period.
However, I'm leery of buying an even more expensive headset, due to the possibility of one of my pets getting a hankering to chew on wires... and of course I also fear that more expensive headsets will disappoint me as well.

Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'

A set I tried that were comfortable were the Icemat Siberias, but at £44 they were a bit expensive, as well as the fact that the mic is one that clips to a shirt, I'd prefer a boom mic.
There are a hell of a lot of them out there, and I'm just wanting something useable.

I finally settled on a set of Plantronics Audio 370's, they seem to be nice and comfy and a lot lighter than my old Medusas.
