Doctor Horrible premieres (Joss Whedon + NPH)

I wonder, are there any comic villains that get started this way? I have to imagine the Hulk has some based off how many have died on accident when he turns. BUt I don't knwo of any.

This is Whedon we are talking about, in a mini-series, come on now.Braedley wrote:Yeah, I wasn't quite expecting that ending. But what was I thinking expecting a status quo ending (status quo for the genre (is there even an actual genre for this?) that is)?

Wow...I really was not expecting that.
Excellent acting though, loved the scene where he monologed with the death ray.

That was insanely good. It made you laugh, it made you think, and NOTHING you expected to happen actually happened.

Wow.
Holy crap.
the first 35 minutes of that is just zany musical comedy. Then it makes this sudden dark turn. And that last quick little scene was like a punch in the gut.
Runs about as long as a primetime drama and far more moving than I've seen in a long time.

Why? Its Wheldon. She was going to bite it. The only surprise for me was that she didn't have super powers herself.Crossroads Inc. wrote:Saw part three...did NOT see that coming!

What surprised me was that it was Captain Hammer who was directly responsible for it - I expected Dr. Horrible to at least pull the trigger to kill her. Once again, it's somehow almost all Hammer's fault.Ender wrote:Why? Its Wheldon. She was going to bite it. I was hoping Moist would make his triumphant appearance in battle, but I guess just being Dr. Horrible's roommate is good enough. Anyone think that this was basically a better symbol for Anakin's fall? Substitute "Evil League of Evil" for Sith, Penny for Padme...
Especially noting that in the beginning he declined Johnny Snow's challenge because kids were in the park.
I love the opening and closing songs of Act II.

That...wasn't very good, in all. I didn't really feel for any of the characters, the songs were mostly crap (except the last one in act II) and none it was really funny.
Honestly, Captain Hammer and the singing cowboys were the only saving graces. Although I did laugh a bit when the girl got shrapnel'd.

After another thread popped up about this, I followed the link just because, and realized there actually is a minor update. Now all three episodes are back up for free in ad-supported format. I wonder what that means? Hopefully that they're making money from ad revenue now as well as iTunes and decided that promotional footage of it was a better business decision than pay-for-watch overall.
I really like their approach to this, since I like free stuff, and it makes me feel more willing to buy a DVD if I know it's going to actually provide direct positive feedback to the makers. It's a very interesting business experiment, as well as a good little show, but for anyone who hasn't seen it yet or wants to show their friends, the Blog seems to be up in it's entirity in one long video for now at least.

I finally got around to watching it. Not as impressed as some people seem to be.
I found it to be a bog-standard villain origin story and textbook example of the Women in Refrigerators cliche.

BUT with great acting and music...and not so bog-standard as all that. Most villains in that genre tend to be 'bad to begin with'; the 'flawed, trying-to-do-good-without-realizing-how-powerhungry-he-is' type is much more rare.Ted C wrote:I finally got around to watching it. I don't know that it would go that way. The story seems to have pretty solid closure, so I see no reason to try to make a series out of it.Strider wrote:In any case, if this was the first episode of a one hour per week primetime musical drama, it'd be the best thing on the air.
The format is its really innovation, anyway. If DHSAB actually turns a profit through iTunes and web advertising, I would expect to see more such projects coming out pretty quick.
