YOU get to be a Time Lord!

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

Thats right!

You are now the proud owner of a standard 12 life Regeneration cycle as wel las your very own (mostly) fulyl functional Tardis!

Placed in this current universe, yee need not worry about other pesky TimeLords watching over oyur back, or Daleks out to destroy creation, just you and a little blue box! This one however has full functionality and can pretty much trnasform into any object of oyur desier!

There are a few stipulations however!
Your Tardis can not leave Earths solarsystem, The Kypur Belt is as far as you can go!
Your Tardis can Not travel INTO the future from our current point in time. You can go into the pasat, and travel back to "Today" but you couldn;t travel to "Tomorrow" untill tomorrow had actually transpired.

SO! What do you do first?

Go back to the early '70s, materialise the TARDIS inside the BBC archives and make copies of all the episodes before they're destroyed.

Then I go back and do the same thing with the Library of Alexandria.

Go back in time and start meddling with history, after first taking copies of current culture. (All the books in the world....:D).
Let's see how the world would look with a few less Hitler's and a few more huge chests crammed full of copies of technology and theorems falling from the sky. :D

I don't know much about the capabilities of a fully-functional TARDIS. Can I go back in time while remaining undetectable? I probably wouldn't risk it otherwise. The most interesting parts of history are exceedingly dangerous. I'd die trying to make the best natural history film EVAR. Instead, I'd probably hang out in the present and become an energy tycoon, hiring a team of the world's best scientists and engineers to produce me a slew of TARDIS-derivative technology; which will probably take a long-ass time, admittedly. Still, I'm sure we could learn SOMETHING from it.

If they can't get results, I could try tweaking history so that the present is far more advanced (Babylonian Renaissance, yo!).

Ok, a few things I will add to your Tardis.

One, a complet cloaking device, if you wish you can hang above the most dangerous battles in history completly undetected /

Two, A cosmic "RESET" button. No mater how mcu hyou screw over the time line, if oy uwish, you can reset it to "Current Day" savings and start over.

Time to meet some interesting people. and then shoot them.

I want to see a world where one day I randomly shot John F Kennedy in his office. What would be different? Would Lee Harvey Oswald be known for anything at all, or just be another name?

Isn't this basically a bog standard 'what would you do with a time machine' question rather than anything specifically Doctor Who based? Admittedly, the universal translator function should be helpful - unless you try to read chinese characters, in which case it isn't.

I spend all my time going backwards and forwards in time, varying between Cardiff, London and a quarry in Northumberland. Hell, those palces must be something special there for the actual Doctor to spend so much time there.

Not quite, since Timlords live for thousands of years and can regenerate when near death, and the TARDIS is more than just a generic time machine, which add some different options. For example, I might just settle down somewhere and spend a few years redecorating the TARDIS to suit my tastes, and maybe use the computer to create ideal versions of programs and movies. I could use the TARDIS as a bunker to isolate myself from the rest of the world or survive dangerous times.

If I could rig up a transmat system to bring me back inside the TARDIS whenever I am incapacitated or feel threatened, I might explore the past to see what ancient life really looked like. I might see what would happen if I brought a few dinosaurs to the present. Would Tyrannosaurs be able to predate mammalian megafauna? Would raptors be able to compete with dogs and cats? How would dinosaurs and birds be categorized in Linnaean taxonomy if early natural philosophers had seen feathered theropods and toothed birds? Would they have given the Dinosaurs their own class instead of putting them in reptilia, put birds and dinosaurs in the same class with aves being a sub-class, or create a diapsid class with reptilia being a sub-class or order?

My TARDIS already has a fully functional chamelion circuit, so why do I need a cloaking device on top of that? Or why can't I just use forcefields to circulate dust around my ship so it appears as a cloud?

And having a TARDIS that's restricted to Earth's present and past? What's the point? First thing I'm doing is learning how to break that restriction and gain fully free movement in time and space.

I think I'd probably just stash the TARDIS somewhere and get on with my life with my newly superpowered brain. I'm not really cut out for the sort of life that the Doctor leads and I definitely wouldn't want to just bugger off into time and leave my family (and how the bleeding hell would I explain this to them, or anyone?). Then again, a TARDIS would, at least, be a convenient way to avoid the horror that is British property prices.

Wow, that has to be the most boring hypothetical answer of all time.

Hmm... wonder how many passenger pigeons, Carolina parakeets, thylacines, quaggas, and Ivory-billed woodpeckers I'd need to bring to the present to reestablish the species?

I'd like to see the Partheon and the temple at Karnak at their heyday. I'd like to see a live trilobite and a wiwaxia. I'd like to see/hear/smell/taste history. What did Ancient Rome look like at its height? Could I copy the Library of Alexandria? How about a Shakespeare play at the original Globe?

Change history? It would be tempting, but I don't think I have the wisdom to know what to change. I could spend lifetimes just observing all the billions of years of history up to now and still not see every wonder.

Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. And then I get paid.- Malcolm Reynolds, Captain of Serenity, which sums up my feelings regarding the lawsuit discussed here.

I think, the answer is obvious: I'd do what the doctor does pick up chicks. I may have to regenerate into David Tennant before I can accomplish it though.

Well, first, there is the thing that Timelord supposedly "know" how much they can meddle.

Second, what's below the TARDIS? I mean, we only see the main room but rarely the other ones. Do we get those stacked?

First things first: I travel through history and, as Broomstick suggests, experience history. Learn the Etruscan language, copy off the Library of Alexandria and others, learn how to make Damascus steel, things like that. When that becomes boring, if ever, I settle down and make full use of my super-brain and body, using psychic paper to take the place of any degrees I might need to show off.

You know what? Having been reminded of my now far longer life span, I go back in time to the dawn of civilization and begin my works. Influencing key points in history would result either in me being the ruler of the world come the present day, or a rather unfortunate result of giant tigers eating everyone and the sun exploding.

Simple. I got back in time and send an anonymous letter to my mother with 10,000.00 in it telling her to invest in Microsoft in 1978 and don't touch it until 1996. I will also send her a code word so she knows it's legit "HAriy Brat"

Even then, the TARDIS could fix that mess. Remember when the Doctor had re-established his link with the TARDIS and told Rose "Everything you changed will stay changed." So the possibility of changing the past remains with the ease most likely directly proportionate to the severity of the change. It would probably be something like: Save someone or kill someone = Massive Reaper infestation. Tell yourself to slow down that one day to avoid getting a ticket = not so much hassle.

That being said I agree with Chardok's stock market plan, but to give it a boost I'd go back in time to various places and take a few artifacts to bring back to present time where they would be worth a fortune. Just make my present "self" become a faux treasure hunter with an uncanny knack of finding rare antiquities in mint condition. Then I could live comfortably while taking regular trips into the past to satisfy my intellectual curiosity. No taking over the world plots or anything like that for me, just a life of leisure.

Um, if you time travel to get an object, it's obviously not going to be thousands of years old. You could have an authentic old kingdom object that's still in it's 90-day warranty. It would never pass as authentic.

So stash it somewhere no one will be able to ever find it and it will remain safe (if it weren't for differing weather effects, places like Mount Everest, hidden beneath the stones, would be good.), pick it up, return to the right area, and then 'find' it.

There are WAY easier ways of making WAY more money with time travel.

The very idea of even NEEDING money when you've got a time machine is a bit strange to me, but I guess people are atavistic atheart.
