Idea for the music industry

Post by Pu-239 »

Basically put high quality songs on mini CDs, with one or two songs a CD, for under 5$, slightly more is ok, depends on demand. Allow the user to rip and mix and match to their CDRs or MP3 players, rather than having to buy a whole CD with 2 good songs and the rest filler shit. Basically a return to single vinyl records (just heard about them, don't know anything about them.) Or they can simply stop overcharging for internet services.

IIRC, he's like 15 or something...

I'd rather just buy the album and decide what I think are the best songs...

Never seen vinyl records?! IMPUDENT CHILD!! :P

15 is still an inexcusable age to just hear about records. It's absolutely insane. I knew about records when I was still in grammar school.

IIRC, single vinyl records were the 45 RPM ones that were a little larger than a CD right now (maybe an extra inch in diameter). If they're anything like single cassettes, one side would be the hit song and the other would be some crap song.

Now that I think of it, I do have a CD single of Tori Amos around here somewhere...

I think a better idea would be to have online catalogs from which you can pick and choose songs to place on a CD, you then pay a price for that CD based on:
1) Royalties to be paid for the songs you select
2) Reasonable profit margin
3) Shipping and handling.

Thus you have the ultimate customization, select the songs you want, only pay for those, and have it mailed to you probably for about the cost of a CD today since the records companies could sell direct and thus have no markup by the end retailer (along with THEIR costs).

I can usually tell if I won't like something before I buy/see/listen to it. I have ~75% accuracy.

I pretty much only buy what I know I will like, or I read reviews from certain sources to find out if I will like them or not.

EDIT: In fact, I'm so certain that I'll like what I buy that I'm willing to take risks. There's a jazz artist named Jenna Mammina, and I plan on buying both of her albums, despite only hearing about 3-4 of her songs once on a local jazz radio programme.

Sounds like CD singles to me.

How about this unique idea.....the music companies stop being greedy assholes..(enforced by Mr 45' here...http://www.imperialweapons.com/swords/v ... Ip-037.JPG) and actually try to compete with reasonable prices...I mean it takes what 10 pence if that to make a cd and oh..even less to make some of the shit people call music these days.... :)

I feel old now. They used to singles on cassette too. I haven't spotted a single in a while. Might find an edited one at Wal-Mart.

Here's the only idea they need to implement.

Lower thier god damned prices.

Hmmm..

Singles take up a significant proportion of all music shops in the UK. They're just on CD now, with the occasional vinyl picture disc.

You know, up until a month or so ago, until I asked about it on this board, I had never seen nor heard of a vinyl record..

The problem with CmdrWilkin's online catalog thing is that you can't mass produce them. Uniqueness is the bane of mass production, unless you change something minor like a serial key on the label of a game, or lock combinations. I think there are places online that do that though.
