Just how notorious is this "MS-13"?

That aside, I don't understand the retardedness of the "sanctuary status". Do the people in SF really believe that all immigrants are nice?

Unless San Fran is acting alot different than most 'Sanctuary Cities', no. I don't know the specifics of that city ordinance, but it merely means no one's gonna toss you to the INS or investigate your immigration status, not that any criminal actions that are, you know, in the city's actual jurisdictional bounds, will be ignored.

Since federal law trumps state law, why don't the feds deputize local law enforcement and say "We don't give a goat's greasy dick what your city council says, you SHALL enforce the fucking law."

Preferably in those exact words.

That would require work. The INS is allergic to work, logic, sense, and sanity.

That is why it will not happen. The INS will continue to insist they are the end-all-be-all, that they must be obeyed, and they will continue to make even crossing the border as a citizen a bigger and bigger hassle, to say nothing of the Hell Incarnate being a Legal Resident is.

IMHO, the real reason ICE doesn't do what Elfdart suggested has nothing to do with 'allergy to work' and everything to do with the pressure the various 'Chambers of Commerce' and big businesses that depend upon illegal immigrant labor to hold down costs exert on the Executive branch.

Politicians respond to money, and big business has more to throw around.

Because it's illegal. The Federal government cannot force local law enforcement to enforce Federal law. See Printz v. US.

As Ossus pointed out, that's not legally allowed.

Those folks do influence the immigration policy, however, which is why it's increasingly become a dysfunctional entity which basically maximizes the number of illegas and minimizes the legals. Legals would need things like minimum wage and benefits.

They can't come right out and order them to do so, but the Congress can say 'you have the choice of helping or watch any Federal law enforcement grants you get dry up'.
It's the exact same way Congress armtwisted the states into passing 21 and up liquor laws back in the 1980's and it's perfectly legal.
