Off Armageddon Reef sequel (David Weber)

Well the sequelk to Off Armageddon Reef (Rent Asunder) is due out next month. So anyone plan on buying it?

And he also has two Honorverse books in the next few months as well. The best thing about the one is Harrington is not the star. Its about Rear Admiral Michelle Henke and her fighting against Manpower.

Well she's not a bad ass martial artist that has some heavy world genetic modifications done to her so that puts her one peg higher already.

I actually picked up Off Armageddon Reef a couple months ago to read while flying. Thought it was pretty good, actually, I was a bit disappointed when the book ended (wanted to read a bit more of the aftermath).

So yeah, I'll probably pick it up sometime.

Harrington needs to die, simple as that, the quality will go far up after that. Bring on the Peeps I say.

Which is the conundrum of David Weber, he writes very, very good battle scenes, but shitty characters(For the most part), some of them sure as hell start up interesting but run right off the edge into hard-core Mary-Sue-ism within the second half of the book there brought in, the only ones who avoid that are the characters he does not pay much attention to.

OAN: How was Off Armageddon Reef? Hells Gate was a good read(+5 Fun for setting. -2 for Weber character creation)

Not really. Pern wasn't SF at the beginning. It was a straightforward fantasy series. It isn't until it got run off a cliff that it turned in a SF series.

I hope that somewhere down the line, Weber takes it back up to Round Two with the vicious genocidal fuckers from OAR, and not in the 'lol last chapter' way he did in Excalibur Alternative (so bad...). Granted, it would have to be WAY down the line, given the 'enormous star-spanning empire versus gunpowder-and-sail-and-bible shithole' element, but it's something I want to see sooner or later, dammit.

I just finished it. It ended way to fast for me.

But then again, I only had about 100 pages to go when I got the book.

I really enjoyed the snippet system on this one. I have to think that it was similar to the serials of the golden age. The timing on every one seemed to leave me going "Arrgh!"

I finished reading it Wedneday night; it seemed, to me, to get occasionally bogged down in the technical aspects of Charis' Industrial Revolution, but overall it was a worthy read.

I did like Archbishop Erayk's death; not because he died, but because I, at least, found it and the fallout of it very moving. Just as Archbishop's recitation of Saint Zherneau's writings to Merlin, asking if he/she were 'Shan-wei's second string'.

Naarhman's alliance with Charis and Chisholm was gold, if only for the description of him as a "round fuzzy ball that someone had attached a head and feet too. Stubby little feet." and his induction as an Imperial spymaster. Better to have him scheming for the empire than against it.

I don't know how the invasion of Corisande will turn out; it's possibly that it may end up joining the Empire in some form or another, which will pit all the island nations against the mainland. Except for Siddarmark; the discussion between the foreign minister and Charis' ambassador was certainly interesting. And funny. "It seems we've misplaced our sovereign; you wouldn't have happened to see him would you? If you do, please pass along this message for him."

Safehold is definitely in for some interesting times.
