Yeah, but Alto has to tsundere at someone, or he explodes.

Oh he does it so much in this episode it's not even funny. His tsun makes him attack Brera, who quickly shows Alto the true power of a cyborg with Quattro shades. Overall this was a nice episode with some callbacks to the other legendary singers of Macross like Minmay and Basara. Even the Protodevilin get mentioned. Also Richard Bilrer's dream is another homage to Leiji Matsumoto, this time its the idea of a galactic railway a la Galaxy Express 999 just with fold technology. My only complaint is the VB-6 doesn't transform to Battroid mode. I want to see it look nice and pretty in modern CG.

Alto will get him by the end, mark my words. Brera will understand the Power Of Love (and tsun) before he bows out.

Christ, Brera is frickin' annoying. Showboating half-man.

Ok... I'm a bit confused. So Grace is in charge of some covert anti-Vajra operation on Macross Frontier. Yet a few episodes ago we saw that she is clearly not human, and I somehow get the impression that she's a Vajra?

Am I missing something here?

A lot. Grace is a human, she's "merely" a cyborg. The Vajra are yet another race of weapons created by the Protoculture for, one assumes, proxy warfare. Like the Zentradi and the Evil. Her conspiracy is probably looking for a way to control them and/or harness their ability to negate dislocations in fold-space.

And holy hell, OverTech lets you tell Newton to go fuck himself. If that wasn't clear before, it is now. "Inertia?" Pfft! Those VFs were pulling like a million Gs.

Ok... But how does one explain the scene just before the destruction of the planet with the Zentradi? Her hand "turned" into some organic mess thingy... which kinda gave me the impression maybe she was related to the Vajra since the Vajra is more "organic" in nature.

Later in the series, when she awoke in the new body, she also mentioned that Ranka is the new Little Queen, presumably of the Vajra. Does this not imply that she is working for the Vajra, and Ranka is presumably some human-Vajra hybrid? Which would also explains why her song can influence the Vajra.

I'm just damn confused...

This is just a quirk of everything the Protoculture makes.

Grace's lower arm turned into bunch of cables connecting her to the dimension eater. She's probably the least organic thing in Frontier. Regarding how the Varja are affected by Ranka's song, it turns out those little purple crystals are "Fold Quartz" which allows for improved fold drives and presumably communication. We've seen that Ranka has microscopic fold quartzes in her body which all her to "sing" through space. Even Alto was able to hear Sheryl singing thanks to the earning she gave him. Richard Bilrer wants to use these fold quartzes to make a "galaxy railway" using improves fold drives that can bypass dislocations. Anyone notice that he suddenly seems a lot less evil without the scary lighting?

Klan's comment is golden, "I know my ancestors and the Protodevilin were affected by song, but this is absurd!"

It's hard to take someone seriously as "evil" when he's playing with a train set.

I never actually thought he looked evil; more an enigmatic rich businessman with shadowy motives. However, he turns out to be yet another self-made man with amusing indulgences.

I was totally confused until I ran into this thread.

The whole thing with Alto hearing the song from within the belly of the Vajra ship makes sense now.. along with a lot of other little hints.

I assume on Galaxy and other Macross colony fleets, cybernetics like we see on Brera and Grace are actually pretty common?

Also, what's the term "deculture" mean?

It's an expression of shock and surprise. Was originally used for unpleasant surprises, has become more general.

I love pestering macross fanwhores by mentioning robotech as much as the next guy, but now you're just pushing it.

In as much as they're both participants in a Bug War, yeah. The resemblance kinda stops there though. The Inbit were a race with their own defined goals, whereas the Vajra appear to be yet another landmine left lying around by the Protoculture.

Inbit are space crabs. Varja are space bugs. Get it right. And the Varja have yet to fall for the Ewok log trap so they're still cool.
