Not pure carbon, but organic compounds which contain carbon. Putting an element in a compound changes it's properties. Silver nitrate won't kill vampires or werewolves like silver, regardless of what they say in the movies.

Well, they also mislead you on how to hotwire a car, break into a vault, and various other dangerous things.

But OT: Steel is likely the ultimate material for millenia to come. Nothing is so versatile. And really, compared to carbon fibre, isn't it much much much easier to make in vast quantities?
