Michael Savage -- one of the most popular talk show hosts in the nation -- is used to controversy. It's been one week since Savage made controversial remarks about autism, referring to those diagnosed with the condition as "brats, idiots, and morons."
Several big advertisers have pulled their commercials from the syndicated "Savage Nation" radio show, and now, thousands of parents and protesters are urging Savage to step down, calling his words "hate speech."
"I'll tell you what autism is," Savage told his audience on July 16. "In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is." The talk show host also said, "Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot."
The conservative shock jock's comments sent shock waves through the autism community. Parents and autism activists staged rallies in protest in New York and San Francisco.
Mr. I-Never-Evolved-Past-A-Savage also got told off on the Congressional floor.

Yeah, the people at WrongPlanet and Aspies For Freedom the like were pissed off at this. Some of them didn't know of Michael Savage until he said this, and they were wondering about whether to ignore him or take him on. They were also organizing petitions and the like, and trying to take out his sponsors. Apparently they're winning.
The fact that Savage is such a total ignorant lying malicious asswipe doesn't bother me; it's the fact that there are obviously enough people who like listening to what he has to say, to keep him on the air...
...although without advertisers, perhaps that will change.

I wonder if a slander lawsuit would work against this guy. By saying that autism is just the result of under-conditioning, he's essentially saying that all of the professionals who research autism or help autistic people are lying.
I mean, what if I said that 99% of bridge collapses could be prevented if engineers used some very basic technique? I'd be slandering every civil engineer in the nation by implying that they're intentionally doing their job poorly.
