His photograph was in one of the articles I linked above and I thought, "hm, white guy."
But why the description of him as "Aboriginal" (in the article on the first page here)?
Maxentius wrote:I find his musical tastes abhorrent, but that's a trivial issue. And it's incredibly jarring to actually put a face and person to the victim of a heinous act I had only, up until now, known through news stories.
I don't think his taste in music is really relevant in any way at all, other than if it somehow set off the killer. The victim was described as wearing "hip hop" clothing, as well.
Anyway, yeah, weird to see the MySpace page. I am a bit surprised it is still up? Doesn't MySpace pull down pages of murder victims, or are they usually left up?

Probably because this kind of vicious murder, followed by cannibalism, smacks of Wendigo psychosis. If he had the condition and wasn't native, he would have been the first.

Okay, I'm not familiar with this Wendigo psychosis, so I didn't see any connection there (though I realize it was mentioned earlier). I will read up a bit on this Wendigo thing.

Long story short: a North American (Cree and geographically-proximate nations) Indian belief that you can be turned into a supernatural murderous creature by the act of cannibalism, or alternately that you can become possessed (in dreams) by such a creature who will turn you into a rampaging cannibal.
I think the last case to be treated as such, was around 1900-1910.

AHEM Algonquin thank you very much - being Metis Cree, I made sure to know where the tribe I'm associated with stood on the Wendigo, and while I may not be an authority on the subject, I'm satisfied that the condition is largely Algonquin to the point where I'd bet money on it.

Depends on what you mean by "treated." Some people contest the notion that the condition exists, and isn't just vanilla psychosis with some regional cultural drag thrown on it.

Okay.

The perpetrators were talking about Wendigo; the prosecutors took it as garden-variety murder/cannibalism, and treated it accordingly (hangings). So far as I can recall.

From his webpage you can easily tell that he didn't do hip-hop style and did more grungie punk style. People got it mixed up. Since they saw him what they assumed to be hip-hop style clothes assumed that he was darker or just saw it like that in their head.

I don't think myspace does. I see dead people myspaces up once in a while it usually becomes a place where people write on their wall and pay their repects and tell them how they miss them. I see people writing on their wall like the person was still alive talking about their day and what not.

You can thank this policy for the "an hero" meme; myspace allowed the account of the kid who committed suicide over his stolen iPod to stay up, which of course /b/tards couldn't keep themselves from being callous scum over and goading his hurt preteen friends into making angry, unthinking responses. Really, if MySpace wants to continue this policy, they should restrict the comments to the friends already on the account.
Well you can't comment on someone's myspace unless you are friends on the account. Someone had to add them and they can very easily remove them as a friend as well.

It just doesn't add up that these btards would've been able to vandalize the page of some inconspicuous nobody kid from Bumfuck, USA, and yet that's precisely how it happened. I guess they must've been able to crack the account.

That's what must have happened. I hear it's easy to crack myspace accounts. Kind of sad to do that when there's people grieving though.

I still don't know why his not being a native discounts Windigo/Lycanthropy psychosis? While Clinical Lycanthropy Psychosis is very rare, it's still recognized that some people revert to an extrememly violent feral state, and start believing that they are possessed by demons, are werewolves or windigos depending on their cultureal background.
So I still stand by my assessment made jokingly at first that this is a case of Windigo or Lycanthropic Psychosis. (gee how much difference is there between being a wolf amoung men and being possessed by a spirit that turns you into a canabile?)

From his pictures he looks no where as big as some eye-witnesses were describing him to be. Actually every bit of the description is wrong. He don't look 6-feet tall he look 160lbs max and he doesn't have a bald head.

It's been a few years since I heard of anything from the Asian gangs in Edmonton. Note the date on that story. All the recent news has been about East Indian, Native and more established biker gangs, leading me to assume they'd been forced to give up their foothold.
The Asian gangs have been driven out of Edmonton, more or less. They might have a corner to call their own somewhere, but that's it.
This was fucked up. The paper says he delivered the Journal, Sun, and Nat. Post, and he just took off without even telling his wife.
The beheadee was going home after working for Northlands at Capital Ex (formerly Klondike Days). What a way to get home, in a casket. I couldn't eat breakfast after I read about it the first day it was in the paper.

Well considering what terrible, grotesque things the attacker was doing, he was bound to appear bigger and more monstrous in the terrified, reeling minds of the panicking bystanders.

Huh, that would make sense. I'd used to hear stuff but haven't so much lately but I just put that down to my hermetic tendancies this last couple years as I've been finishing my degree. Its not something I follow so I just figured that things were more or less the same.
This lead to a freaky "there, but for the grace of god, go I moment" for my lab mate because we're about the same age and the very next day he was taking a Greyhound home from Edmonton.
RCMP announced Friday morning that they have charged Vince Weiguang Li, 40, of Edmonton with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear at the Manitoba provincial court in Portage la Prairie.
Obviously it ain't a skinhead (although that doesn't rule out racism). I just think this guy is insane.
There's been like, seven decapitations and attempted decapitations this month. What the fuck, world? Is is the Year of the Guillotine or something?

Holy shit. I don't have a link for this, but I just saw it on the news. Apparently, police tapes reported that the first officers on the scene actually saw the killer eating parts of his victim. No link for this, and frankly it's my hope that it's not true. UGH.

Huh? The original article said he was "aboriginal in appearance". Are we sure that's the guy?
Yes, read the guys comments on his wall. I confirmed it by taking not that the article quoting a small excerpt describing himself (125 lbs, short 5'5" to 5'6") that they got from his myspace. The eye-witnesses were totally and completely wrong with their description of both the victim and the attacker. The guy doesn't look aboriginal, he probably wasn't in hip-hop clothing going by his style on his myspace and rather was probably more grunge look, and his attacker was as big and menacing with a bald head like he was made out to be.
