Cowboy. Beebop. Live. Action.

From the moron who did A Scanner Darkly? *shudders*. What is this idiot thinking? "I'm not a fan of anime or Bebop, but I thought I'd give this a go! What ho!" Christ. And KR as Spike? Well if the films going to have a crap producer and be made by Fox, why not shove a useless stoneface actor in it - it'll be beyond all hope anyway.
I think Whedon would be great for this, but isn't he busy off doing his new Dollhouse series?

Filion seems a little too dry to be Spike, although he's far better than Keanu Reeves. Maybe if you thinned him out a bit, and gave him long hair.
If you wanted to turn Jet into a black guy, Samuel Jackson would probably be a good choice. He seems to be able to play the right kind of attitude, the more steady guy to Spike.

Remember Faye's first appearance? She goes into a Chinese medicine store, and notices some thugs following her to the store. She asks the store owner if he knew the first rule of combat, answers that it's to get the first shot, and then hoses down the front of the store with a submachine gun. The thugs flee, then return with a vehicle-mounted Gatling gun, and it's Faye's turn to dive behind cover.Peptuck wrote:Well, Bebop does make some rather extensive use of martial arts, and if Firefly is any indication, Whedon may have let his aversion to gun use fade a bit.
In short, a Faye who doesn't scratch her (very) itchy trigger finger when facing thugs is like a Luke Skywalker who doesn't use lightsabers when facing stormtroopers, so out-of-character, you might as well create an original character to replace her.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Actually, Vicious is a pretty wooden character. I can see a Keanu Reeves Vicious - he's got the martial arts skills at least. He would need more screen time and lines than in the original, though.Maxentius wrote:If Joss Whedon directed, you could probably get away with Nathan Fillion as Spike.
Vicious, on the other hand, would seem to defy live-action characterization.
You know, I can't even think of any actors with Spike's body shape - long arms and legs, broad shoulders but narrow face and waist.

To me, Spike's most noticeable feature is his ATTITUDE, the devil-may-care, "Whatever happens, happens," calmness in the face of life-or-death situations. I can accept Arnold Schwarzenegger as Spike if the Governator can (magically) capture that attitude.Winston Blake wrote:You know, I can't even think of any actors with Spike's body shape - long arms and legs, broad shoulders but narrow face and waist.
As for the ideal actor, I ask those who've seen 'Wanted', do you think James McAvoy can capture Spike's attitude?

He can't be a total calm person, either (like Reeves would probably play him); he looses his temper at times, makes jokes, and the like.Sidewinder wrote:To me, Spike's most noticeable feature is his ATTITUDE, the devil-may-care, "Whatever happens, happens," calmness in the face of life-or-death situations. I wikied him. He at least looks like he could play Spike, but I haven't seen him in movies that I remember. As for the ideal actor, I ask those who've seen 'Wanted', do you think James McAvoy can capture Spike's attitude?

It's not so much looks like Spike...it's all about the attitude.
And the Swordfish.

hmm... on the nature of other attempts...
What ever happened to the Live Action Eva movie?... I remember one of my friends constant moaning about it a few years back... but I've never felt the need to look it up...
And I recall DBZ being attempted a few times, don't recall if any of them ever made it out of production, aside from those chinese ones...

That depends of whether you are going for the Japanese or English interpretation of the character, there are subtle differences. Personally, I prefer the English version of Cowboy Bebop, and I doubt Reeves would be up to the task of doing either Vicious or Spike, but if you're imagining like their Japanese versions, then Reeves could do Vicious.Winston Blake wrote:Actually, Vicious is a pretty wooden character. The Eva movie project seems to have dried up along with most of ADV, though they're still trying to shop it around.Andrew_Fireborn wrote:hmm... on the nature of other attempts...

Fox is well into production of their live action Dragon Ball movie, however, scheduled for Summer 2009.
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Eh? Vicious never really displayed "impressive martial arts abilities"... He didn't really do much in the way of flashy moves or anything, just straight to the point really...Winston Blake wrote:Actually, Vicious is a pretty wooden character. Vicious DOES display "impressive martial arts abilities," specifically kendo. He's used a katana to fight and kill squads of Triad gunmen. He also claimed he's the only one who can kill Spike (a master in Jeet Kun Do); Spike never disputed that claim.Commander 598 wrote:Eh? That's not really what I meant. People with "impressive martial arts abilities" are usually displayed in long drawn out fight scenes filled to the brim with flashy moves, including Spike (Especially if you count his fight with Vincent in the movie). One of the key reasons why Vicious is one of my favorite characters is because he doesn't really do that. Every time he actually unsheathed that Katana, the fight itself was very brief...Sidewinder wrote:Vicious DOES display "impressive martial arts abilities," specifically kendo.
