OK, here we go.
The Great War (Continental War? Whatever) kicks off, with people picking sides for either their own selfish reasons (winning side, land grab, whatever) or historical friendly (or at least close enough) reasons. However, nobody's ever really done this whole international thing so it turns into a big bloody morass. One side or the other may make some gains, but they alone don't have the ability to capitalize on it and their allies don't really support them well enough to help. So it's basically a stalemate.
This rages along the Old Continent for awhile, with others more distant maybe helping, maybe not. Eventually the "Allies" win by virtue of attrition, eventually getting their act (somewhat) together, and maybe some of the NPC "Axis" nations bailing.
So there's an allied "victory" but it left a lot of people dead and a lot of territory fucked up. Nothing really Versailles Treaty like though, as the Allies themselves aren't in a strong enough position to force that through.
Because of this, a couple organizations pop up. First is the League of Sovereign States (LSS), headed up be PeZookia, Shroomania, and whoever. A loose coalition of sorts but plauged by problems; Shroomania is dealing with ever more of it's colonies wanting independence and is distracted (plus former colonies now states and a part of the LSS screw around to fuck with Shroomania), PeZookia is weakened from the war, things like that. It eventually flops when the Shadows start causing trouble and, well, the LSS can't do jack about it.
The other one is the MESS. Because of the utter clusterfuck that was the Great War, we resolve to train
together so that if the time ever comes where our alliance needs to fight as one, we can. This is seperate from the LSS, who aren't as interested in war anymore (as they were the ones most heavily involved anyway) and they're not an alliance so much as a global forum. However we take something of an isolationist stance: you leave us alone, we leave you alone.
This goes on for awhile, and thus the Second Great War (or World War) starts, again on the continent. The Allies get beaten back by the Axis some, and ask for help. The MESS responds by...not really responding. Individual countries may do Lend/Lease types of things, but nobody is really interested in fucking around with the Old Continent again. However, the Axis, realizing that there are a bunch of former Shroomanian colonies out there (that are helping, in what way they can...some of them at least) get greedy. They can't take the war to the colonies while dealing with the Continent, so they enlist some help: Japanistan and/or Shepistan.
There's one slight problem here: Shepistan has something of a fued with the Old Dominion. Feeling quite full of themselves, pleased that they're on "the winning side" and suspecting the MESS is basically a paper tiger because of their noninvolvement, they make a move on the Old Dominion.
Big mistake. The MESS gets pissed, angry at this surprise attack and treachery, and our mutual defense pact comes into play. Cue the awakened sleeping giant routine.
And so the war goes, the Allies eventually win, but because there's no atomic bomb we don't really win decisively. Some nations are better off than others (mostly those away from the Old Continent) and there's the whole reconstruction deal. This brings about the FUN: a slightly tighter but still mostly economic trade group (sort of like how they started out last time).
As for the MESS, we decide on a new course. We'll be a bit more proactive in dealing with trouble spots, places that are likely to plunge us into another large war. That doesn't mean we go out and take care of
all the world's problems; there's no way we could, and besides we're mostly interested in the "major" stuff, things that might effect us directly, and sometimes we'll get an idealist streak and do something just for the greater good. This of course ebbs and flows with the various political stances that are in place throughout the alliance at any given time; sometimes we're pretty good about it, sometimes we're not.
Anyway, that's my general idea for working with these two world wars. Comments, criticisms, lavish praise?
EDIT: Inspiration behind the LSS name? Because some people will call it the LoSS.
EDIT2: The reasons behind who joins the MESS intially and why remain the same. I posted them...somewhere, I think earlier in this thread?
