How odd the Norwegians with extreme right-wing views are all enthusiastically supporting Russia in this. Mind you they also want the Russians to invade us, execute the Labour Party government, and kick out the muslims so... Yeah...The Duchess of Zeon wrote:May we see the Russian Army finally put the line down on the pathetic attempts of NATO to encircle, constrict, and destroy what remains of Russia and the Russian people--a decisive war which will shatter once and for all the pathological hatred of the Russian people and Russia spread by such purveyors of hate as Zbigniew Brzezinski and their continuous efforts to destroy all things Russian.

Most of the Chechens are now in Russia's pocket, since Putin paid for and installed one of the rebel leaders (now the son, senior got killed a while back) as President of Chechnya. He has most of the fighters, and he probably wouldn't do anything since he obviously wants to continue receiving Moscow's petrorubles.
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

Yeah, and fuck the Georgian civilians that get in the way, eh? Snap back to reality instead of your pitiful parallel universe that you alone exist in. This has nothing to do with NATO expansionism, and everything to do with yet an other power-play by the Russians in their typical manner: attack a puny foe that will doubtless be pulverised into submission al la the Chechans as a message to the west that 'Russia is powerful' once more. It's a shame that such dick-waving has to result in the destruction of a sovereign nation. The Duchess of Zeon wrote:May we see the Russian Army finally put the line down on the pathetic attempts of NATO to encircle, constrict, and destroy what remains of Russia and the Russian people--a decisive war which will shatter once and for all the pathological hatred of the Russian people and Russia spread by such purveyors of hate as Zbigniew Brzezinski and their continuous efforts to destroy all things Russian.
Russia is the playground bully that I always wanted to punch in the nose back at school. Lets hope that the western world marginalises them even more after this latest clusterfuck.

What Georgian civillians? What loss of independence? So far, the only civillians who have been killed were the 1400 Russian citizens who have been murdered by mass artillery bombardment.Ubiquitous wrote:Yeah, and fuck the Georgian civilians that get in the way, eh? Russia has not launched a full scale invasion, you grot. So far, the battle is limited to South Ossetia.
Have a very nice day.

I smell Russophobia here. Why, too much propaganda fed into you over the last few years? Or has the fact that many of the people in those separatist regions have Russian passports completely flown past your head, along with the racist policies enacted by the Georgian president aimed squarely at these "rebels". What, the United Kingdom hasn't bullied anyone in history?Ubiquitous wrote:Yeah, and fuck the Georgian civilians that get in the way, eh? The fucking Georgians attacked an independent region first, with massed indescriminate rocket bombardment of civilian targets which has killed 1,400 innocent people, most innocent civilians and almost all with Russian passports and Russian citizen, in one single motherfucking day. And that is Russia's fault--how? Oh, right, it isn't. Go fuck yourself, you cunt.

Besides, with "recent events", the Western World has absolutely no claim to any righteousness or virtue in this matter - because everyone has already seen that great Spartafreedomerica is no different from any of these animals.
Will there be great international outrage? On one hand, these aren't brown people killing each other, these people are actually white - and old and (possibly) rich. On the other hand, they're Slavs, so what does the West care, right?
Why is there any outrage, anyway? Things like these have happened, has just happened, and will continue to happen. No one should be surprised when this stuff starts happening in their backyard.

A greek friend of mine had great fun replacing the references to Georgia with Serbia, and South Ossetia with Kosovo. Funny that innit? It's almost like there's some kind of double standard at work.

Gotta love when people on the other side of Atlantic get all trigger happy. Yes that's what we need in Europe, another "decisive" war. War to end all wars!!The Duchess of Zeon wrote:May we see the Russian Army finally put the line down on the pathetic attempts of NATO to encircle, constrict, and destroy what remains of Russia and the Russian people--a decisive war which will shatter once and for all the pathological hatred of the Russian people and Russia spread by such purveyors of hate as Zbigniew Brzezinski and their continuous efforts to destroy all things Russian.

I don't agree with the 'oh noes encroachment' sentiment (what, Russia should have a monopoly on military-political influence on Georgia now?), and I do feel that there's an atmosphere of entrapment involved with Russia's prepping up of a separatist movement that was continually poking Georgia until they pretty much had to react...
But on the other hand, NATO probably shouldn't've been so eager to recognize Kosovo as an independent state. Russia warned beforehand that if that precedent was to be set, they'd use it to support the independence movements in South Ossetia and Abkhazia who were making similar moves. And lo, thus it was done.
In that light, Western jabbering about 'territorial integrity' sounds like fraudulent posturing to me: it's 'respect these internationally recognized borders!' when it's a nation we like, but if it's an international pariah (like, oh, Serbia), then 'self-determination' is suddenly the preferred buzzword.
Basically this is Russia acting like dicks, and Georgia falling into the hole dug for it by the West.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

Well, Russia needs the EU just as much, if not more, than we need them. They're just convenient for that gas and counterbalance to the States. Were the EU to actually have a set of cojones, they'd still not bother interfering simply because this is Russia's problem and they can do what they like as with Chechnya. Strangely, most on the continent are sick of war, even to the point of not getting dirty when one can be prevented elsewhere.
And anyway, the Olympics are on. You want to miss all that glitz?

Even without Russian gas there's no-one in Europe who'd send troops to frackin' Georgia over this. Outside of the obvious pacifists (Germany), most nations don't have the means to get any noteworthy number of boots on the ground there, and those nations that have the means to get troops there are either busy policing Afghanistan or, oh I don't know, strolling about some hole in Africa the French have taken an interest in for some unfathomable reason. And even if the means were there, why the hell would anyone want to involve themselves in a clusterfuck like this? It's a bunch of Caucasian nations in a shoot-out. Georgian hopefulness notwithstanding, no-one cares enough to get their hands dirty.

Who the fuck is saying Russia's at fault? Are you a fucking ass? I said Georgia was pretty much forced to react, not that they had a right to shell the fuck out of Tskhinvali, you incomparable twit. Russia's proxies poked Georgia, Georgia lashed out in an extremely stupid and destructive fashion, thus giving Russia exactly what it wanted: a legitimate reason to pound the fuck out of Georgia and establish de-facto control over South Ossetia. That's it. Now take your strawman and kindly shove it up your ass.nickolay1 wrote:Yeah, they had to react by indiscriminately shelling a city and possibly murdering over a thousand civilians.![]()
