I am a practicing Christian.

Yes, there are only three Christians on the poll. But I think you underestimate their influence. Put up a poll asking how many people here were indoctrinated by or were former Christians, and I bet the stats change DRASTICALLY.
A number of members have said as much that this forum has helped them come to terms with their irrational need for faith and declare themselve atheists. Heh. SD.net: Providing Flames of Support for Recovering Religionists.

If there was an all mighty, all knowing, all caring, omnipotent, transcendant, [snip 45 lines of text] , all loving God, He commited suicide and exploded in the Big Bang...
That should make me an atheist (or the pope of a new religion)!

There is a god, but he no longer interferes in worldly affairs, cuz he's dead, but he did create the universe by offing himself and causing the Big Bang. Yeap, that's a deist, one weird deist, but a deist non the less.

Actually, I pointed it out to a sheltered person who was subsequently depressed that there are so many godless infidels who refuse to bask in the glory of God. Their reaction: "It's still only a handful of people, you know. You won't be missed when you're not in Heaven."Exonerate wrote:I wonder how long it is before some sheltered person stumbles upon this thread, and dies of a heart attack resulting from the shock of seeing so many godless infidels who refuse the bask in the glory of God.

I like my odd beliefs that, by all things told and said, points to being an athiest.

Millions of people are a "handful?" I see she went for the smug "you'll all burn in Hell" response. Well...we don't let the local Southern Baptist church forget that we own their land . One of the advantages to being the oldest church in a small town. We used to own nearly 70% of the land (IIRC), and still hold a fairly good portion, most of which we use for community projects (such as the local Little League fields that are on our land, which we rent to the city for $1/year).Frank Hipper wrote:I used to post at the Landover Baptist message boards like that all the time. And the fact that the United Methodists draw the ire of the Southern Baptitsts should be a point of pride on your part, don't you think? The Dark wrote:ROFLMAO...I think you pull that off far to well, Hipper. What ain'tcha tellin' us'ns? (Besides, we think they're just as wrong as they think we're wrong...we're just willing to accept that people can be wrong and still be good ).

Reformed Christian. So reformed, that I no longer accept the tenants of God, The Son, or The Holy Spirit.Shrykull wrote:just want to see what most people are here, not sure I understand the term agnostic, I talked to someone who said that he is an agnostic atheist and that it can be theistic or atheistic, that an agnostic is someone who thinks it can't be proven either way, but that they can still believe it one way or the other,
the example he used was "For example is there a giant invisible green banana orbiting the planet Venus, I can prove there is or isn't (Agnostic) but I don't believe there is (Atheist)"
In short, I am an atheist.
