Raj Ahten wrote:When I see that Sea Skimmer has over 40 divisions that are in decent shape, that just reinforces how fucked a nation like mine would be in a conflict with an Imperium. (Luckily I'm on a continent with no large powers. Attacking over the sea is quite a different beast from an over land invasion.)
I expect them to lose at anything less then a 3 to 1 advantage. The infantry is cannon fodder… hell just about everything is cannon fodder in Japanistani doctrine. Also 8 of those divisions are immobilized pacifying new Sumatra and they consume disproportionate resources.
I'm fielding esentially four divisions worth of troops with 12 rather lightly equipped combat brigades. Would this be an apropriate force for a nation like mine that has around $750-800 billion GDP and is likely to constantly be embroiled in one brush war or another? France has around 17 Brigades I think, and they have a hell of a lot bigger economy than I would (They also don't spend very much on defense, however.)
2008 France has a much bigger economy, but a low rate of military spending, which is then stretched to cover some very expensive high end items like ballistic missile submarines and that floating near disaster of an aircraft carrier. Large land forces are just not a priority anymore. I have however now posted the 1989 French OOB (French GDP was about 1 trillion then) in the building you nation thread for comparison to back when France faced a real land threat.

The French don’t really use brigades, but counting divisions and regiments suggest their total force has about 45-50 maneuver brigade equivalents. A lot of the equipment isn’t the best and is generally lightweight… but I think you could very easily afford a 20+ brigade military including a number of heavy armor units. 12 brigades are just not going to do the job if you have to defend land frontiers AND engage in brushfire wars unless this is not counting reserves.
Fingolfin_Noldor wrote: I think if I am not wrong, Skimmer doesn't have much of a navy. So lose those destroyers and so forth, you might get a similarly sized army.
My naval OOB will be up shortly. Its not exactly small, I’m basing its size off the real life Japanese Navy, but with more submarines and small vessels. However like the land army its equipment is mostly obsolete, and most surface combatants are geared only towards ASW. The only carriers are literally from the WW2 era (Shinano lives!) and long range amphibious warfare capability is completely nonexistent, though large landing craft and LSTs can be used for short distance outflanking landings. A handful of hovercraft are used for raiding.

OK I'm thinking 4 NPC Nations in between me and PeZook and they are as follows:

Independent Republic of Sjenska

President: Srdjan Karic( You remember him don't you :D )

A third world shithole with a large number of poorly equipped soldiers. Known as a terrorist hideout. Extremely militaristic and aggressive. Two attempts at annexing a neighbouring state, both failed due to the intervention of PeZookia and the USSR.

The Republic of Rohan

President: Zoran Stojkovic

-Third world shithole
-Highly unstable
-Known pirate hideout
-Involved in constant conflict with Shroomania because of pirates.

The Republic of Sargonia

President: E. Valjevcic

-Third world shithole
-highly unstable
-several regime changes
-stabilizing in recent years due to International support

The Zagor Empire

Emperor: Marek The Cruel

A highly militaristic third world shithole involved in constant skirmishes with it's neighbours most notably the Independent Republic of Sjenska and the USSR. Highly unstable and known as a terrorist hideout, attempted to annex neighbouring territories several times but failed due to USSR and PeZookian intervention. The only thing preventing the USSR from obliterating them are international politics.
--------------------------------------------------------

Their equipment is mostly poorly trained infantry and tacticals. The Screaming Horde variety.:D
--------------------------------------------------------

I could write up something more detailed on them but I believe that it is better to leave it like this until the game begins. I'm not sure if I should bother with maps. Perhaps it will be easier if Stas just squeezes them in.

So Shroom, PeZook any suggestions? Opinions?

As an Imperium, I now qualify for both Spain and France together! Bwahaahaa!

My new Canissian Government page is up, I'm still tweaking details on my military OOB page.

Say what are people’s postions on intoxicating drugs going to be? I’m aiming for Japanistan to be the worlds main source of legal opiates for medicine … but to also have the shadowy paramilitary Unit 420 working hard to meet world demand for crystal meth, PCP and similar products, while also experimenting on prisoners to develop new super amphetamines and hallucinogens for potential military applications. Reports of Japanistani shipyards building drug subs for hire are officially denied of course.

This is my current playsheet:

Active Duty:
5 x Armored Divisions
4 x Mechanized Divisions
2 x Infantry (enough to form a mountain corps etc)

Reserves:
5 x Mechanized Divisions
40 x Infantry Divisions

Shepistani Special Republican Guard
4 x Armored Divisions

Keep in mind that my reserves past the Mech Divisions are sort of poorly funded. Only about 1/3rds of the 40 divisions can be counted on to attack or be equipped for attacking. The rest are just static/line of communications control divisions at various places.

I proposed a Frequesuan Treaty Organization earlier - Karmic Knight already expressed interest. We could start with some cooperation on common defence, and then once the game starts we might want to hold a conference to possibly expand that into something more?
Yeah, I saw your proposal and thought to myself "Why didn't I bring it up first?" :P A common defense treaty might be a good move, though we should also agree on some common principles. I propose two main tenants: 1.)Non interference in Frequesan affairs by outside powers; local powers should solve local problems (If we request help, that is a different matter of course). 2.)We should have a commitment to keep the region stable. Even if we are being super cynicle refugees flowing into our countries and the colapse of trade brought by war is bad for bussiness.

We should definitely have a conference of some sort at the beginning of the game, in it we could introduce key NPC players in the region and have some sort of crisis to become involved in perhaps.

In Canissia, "natural" drugs (marijuana, shrooms, peyote) are regulated, sold legally, and the laws regarding drunk driving and similar public intoxication apply to them.

"Processed" drugs like LSD, Cocain, heroin, etc. are illegal and vigorously hunted down; pushers of such drugs are hammered with not just drug trafficking but things like public endangerment and all sorts of other things...

Opium and its derivatives are in a sort of fuzzy zone-- they are considered "natural" but they are quite destructive and addictive. For the most part, opium selling and trafficking is harshly punished, but using or being addicted to opium itself is seen more as an affliction that needs treatment... although that treatment may be forcible...

Possession of any amount of marijuana is grounds for the death penalty. It gets worse from there.

Alcohol and tobacco are just fine, though. :D

First off, I'd like to thank Sea Skimmer for his advice as it is appreciated. Again I find myself torn between points and trying to buy a more realistically sized force based off of my budget (which would be around $40 billion a year) :? . Does anyone know of any decent sources that are fairly easily accessed that could help tell me how much it costs to run military units, so doing things based on budget could be a bit easier to figure out?

About reserves, just how the hell are they counted in the points system anyway? Just buy forces with lower training levels?

Edit: Oh and my drug policy would likely be to ban crap like meth, PCP, heroin and cocoine, while "softer" drugs are legalized.

The Vasilía Roméon frowns on the use of narcotics in general.

That being said, we don't execute anyone for the use and possession of narcotics, unless you are involved in large scale smuggling or some crime ring.

Of course, we might think of reviving cruxificions if it becomes necessary.

Booze is legal everywhere. In the far south tobacco is strongly frowned upon, but marijuana is not, in the middle the situation tends to reverse, and in the north, you get to do what you want so long as you don't screw with the wells, mines, or the Farms.

I agree with all of the points, the defense agreement, and the support of a Frequesuan conference at the beginning of the game.

I support a defense agreement-but I want to be somewhat uneasy, due to natural tensions and differences between the countries. I do support a Frequesuan conference at the start of the game, though.

It's the Republic of Alaska. And I'm on the back side of the new continent. I'm working on my OOB, and I'm wondering what an Air Defense Brigade would cost?

Khitan has a long history of trafficking in various illegal substances and smuggling. Khitan Pirates and Khitan Pirates have long been an issue around the know world.

In a modern day setting this translates into heavy taxation on the "heavy" illegal drugs along with discrimination. Anyone can be a Opium pipe smoker or a cocaine sniffer but say goodbye to things like heath care, government jobs and life insurance.

Since I've somehow turned this Mongolian horde slash ancient Asia empire into a global power the only way to do so is a strong hand. So Khitan will be a Socialist Uptopia with lots of werid throwbacks.

More to come.

All drugs hard and soft are perfectly legal in San Dorado. We import a lot of natural opiates from the Tanstaafl Raj and our pharmachemical industry produces a number of synthetic drugs itself. You're welcome to trade your produce with us insofar as we're concerned, no questions asked.

Sounds good to me. We could use a similar setup as NATO, with an 'article 5' and a 'if you start a war about we're not obliged to help you out' clause. And then have an increasignly fuzzy definition of 'war' that boils down to 'messes with the Great Powers'. That way we can screw around in the NPC nations without breaking the clause :).

IRTv2 is pretty lax on drugs ... so long as you're not on them when operating things like cars, for examples. Showing up for work while drunk or high is a good way to be shown out the door. Cooking up a meth lab is also a good way to get a raid, since there are strict pharmaceutical requirements for sale of many drugs.

Also, being a druggie is one way to ensure you don't get a job, which is a very bad thing in the cutthroat world that is the IRT.

I have a large army in the continental power (6 corps, see this for TO&E), though it's mostly older equipment: modernized M60 tanks, M113 APCs. Artillery and air-defense equipment are more modern.

Technically BAE Systems I believe is working on the F-35... :). Alternatively you could perhaps have the BAE Replica under development. I'm not entirely clear how we stand on introducing cancelled projects into our armies though... For example, could people have Black Widow II's flying about instead of Raptors?

Just use the spreadsheet it's easy. If you need help I'll do what I can.

Suggestion: If you want a stronger air force just divert some points from your army and maybe navy(but I wouldn't suggest that because you are an Island).

I want a good Navy and a good Air Force with decent Mushroom Marines, but a very very modest Army. Something like what UK has IRL.

Mang, I just checked out PeZook's updated history.
PeZook wrote: They were given bicycles at first, to train "flying" in formation and attack tactics. As warplanes clashed in Shroomanian skies, well-trained PeZookian pilots were pedalling vehemently along green fields, making shooty noises as they "attacked" their opponents. For months on end, they could only watch from the ground as Shroomanian pilots would attack gigantic bomber formations, while they played around.

EDIT:

Hang on! Can Shroomania get F-22s? As much as I love Euro-tech, I am totally gay for the Raptor!
