I think we should wait with naming the central nations (6, 11, 12) until Ford has a chance to wow us with his plans.
Beyond those, we still have 9, 17, 18 and 19 left. I wouldn't be opposed to merging 17 and 18, but I guess it's mainly up to Coiler to determine what his immediate neighbours look like.

I'd recommend combining him with 12 and 13, and possibly 6 as well. That should give him about the right size relative to everyone else.
What about 11, 12, 6, and 9?
So Raj gets his Congo-analogue and Ford Prefect would get a relative size bump.
I would say 4, 6, 11 and 12. That gets him a size more to scale with where he should be and preserves the "Untamed Wilderness" area.
As an added bonus, this puts him in a better position to bitchslap San Dorado whenever their rampant capitalism begins to annoy Stas and he pays (bribes) them to be his intermediary.

For the "newcomers" to Frequesque I'd really like to know their government types and a bit about their historical foreign policy goals, if they don't mind. For instance, do you all like to meddle in the CFR's business?
Also about the map, it's been redrawn before so we might be able to fine tune the borders of undefined NPC states to make things work better if needed.
An ogilarchic neosocialist welfare state, the PRH is suffering a critical shortage of funds in the People's Treasury after nearly fifty years of maintaining the Basic Living Stipend. As the nation creaks under the weight of the Congressionist Party's well-intentioned but commitment to the People. As such, their survival largely depends on the 'take' of their large force of privateer retainers, haunting the oceans along the continent's southern tip.
PRSF Navy privateers have, in recent years, come to depend upon the cargos of nearby Westchester's merchant marine for the majority of their take. As a direct result, His Majesty's Imperial Westchestrian Navy has been forced to heavily escort its' convoys. As tensions rise between the Empire of Westchester and the People's Republic, fear of outright war between both countries rises accordingly. Whether or not the IWN is forced to take pre-emptive action to eliminate PRSF raiding vessels or the PRSF is forced to wage a direct land war with its' neighbor to secure the resources of the lush West Lowlands region of Westchester has yet to be seen.

Totally ripped off of Haven from the HH books, but I like it.
EDIT: Westchester is a hereditary monarchy with imperial intentions. It was formerly more than one kingdom (history forthcoming in the history thread), and when the Westchester Dynasty united them, Grand Duke Westchester was coronated as His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Westchester.
I dunno if I'll actually fight another player in this game. Probably later, but for now I intend to beat up NPCs until I've expanded my nation enough to credibly join the FTO and be a contributing member.

For guys whose nations are way over yonder you seem awfully concerned with such a small state as San Dorado .

This is certainly possible - we can always adjust the map if need be.

Dude, the FTO was founded by two duchies and Raj, a duchy would be a good asset to the group.
This is an empty country and I am it's king, and I should not be allowed to touch anything.

Man, I'm in the nort-western corner; Karmic is in the south-western corner, Raj is in the south-eastern corner... It's not like we're all bunched up... You'd be located pretty much right inbetween Karmic and Raj yourself.

Overland Connection is not an issue, I'm encased by mountains.

Dude, Stas is like the Super Commie. He's going to hate you on general principle. Though he'll hate Phong more just because he's bigger.
As for the rest of us, it depends on what you do to annoy us, really. Selling weapons to Shep would probably earn you a place on the shitlist.

I was hoping to buy some pesticides from Shep, will that earn any ire?
This is an empty country and I am it's king, and I should not be allowed to touch anything.
I like it myself, especially since there's now an even higher chance of letters of marque, privateering, piracy and general swashbuckling all up and down our fair shores. Which, being a nation descended from pirates, is of course fine with me .
Karmic Knight wrote:I was hoping to buy some pesticides from Shep, will that earn any ire?
It could, especially if these "pesticides" are a cover for something decidedly less benign.
Let me just say though, that while the MESS itself (can't speak for the FUN or anybody else) isn't going to just go to war with Shep right off the bat because we can, we're still going to have cause to view him with some suspicious and distrust. And, by extension, those who trade with him. It's a natural outgrowth of the fact that he and the Old Dominion (Lonestar, a MESS member) have had a history of conflicts, so we're not just doing it "because it's Shep"; we have a valid historical reason to watch him and those who deal with him closely.
EDIT: Basically, saying trading with Shep is going to make you a mortal enemy of the MESS is overboard; it simply won't, and honestly "shitlist" may have been a bit strong. On the other hand, it certainly isn't going to earn you any favors from us, either.

Does the Mess have a supplier of strong pesticides?

Keep in mind, as per a deal with the Vineyards (#7) in our history, the Shinra Republic will have ships based from his country, as well as possibly some Marines and patrol aircraft. So you'll already have a "foreign power" in the region.
It won't be enough Marines to start invading anybody (I only have 9 regiments overall, and they certainly won't all be in the Vineyards), but the ships at least would have a reason to deal with pirates and the like. Especially since they're based in a nation just next door.
So speaking of which, the Shinra Republic might be an observer in the FTO, given we do have a presence in the area.

I'm reasonably certain we would, if it is indeed chemicals to simply deal with pests disrupting agriculture. Hell I'll probably supply with our whole trade deal thing we have going on. Either me or Coyote, since he's sort of a "silent partner" in it.
Of course if you use those pesticides for "other" purposes, it should go without saying we'd probably be upset with you.
Unless, of course, we had an under the table agreement. Of which we would deny all knowledge of and be suitably outraged you could ever accuse us of such a thing if it ever came to light.

I sort of see the PRSF having a large, cheap conscript People's Army and a rather PLAAF-like People's Army Air Force, but a large privateer-retainer fleet and a moderate Soviet-Surplus People's Navy.
So land war won't be easy, but if various nations cooperate their privateers and possibly the People's Navy can be neutralized reasonably fast.
Hey karmic, i guess you can add the People's Republic of South Freresque to the list.

Your presence in the area is likely to give my reactionaries something to rail against. More reasonable men would be likely to take help wherever they can get it. I see the FTO as being more about "foreigners shouldn't dictate policy" rather than "All foreigners are the devil and must never touch the continent."
Raj Ahten wrote:Your presence in the area is likely to give my reactionaries something to rail against.
If it's anything like last time, simply being a member of the MESS will get me plenty of that, whether it comes from that continent or not.
You can blame the Vineyards though, as this was part of the "price" of getting our help to end their little civil war.
Raj Ahten wrote:More reasonable men would be likely to take help wherever they can get it.
One would think so.
Raj Ahten wrote:I see the FTO as being more about "foreigners shouldn't dictate policy" rather than "All foreigners are the devil and must never touch the continent."
Seems reasonable enough. The force I'd have down there wouldn't really be enough to dictate policy, even if they're probably one of the more moderns and well-equipped units in the region. Unless some actual government was stupid enough to attack them. That would probably get a response that would do more than "dictate policy" in the region.
So what about my observer status, anyway?

And mining, the mountains to the south contain large deposits of the rare platinum group ores, and are under constant conflict between settlers from both my country and my southern neighbour, my southern neighbour has sent vermin and such in the past to disrupt the mining communities, so pesticides are part of a larger "miner's package" provided by the major mining companies.

I support it, but I don't quite know what that is worth.

Oh, the Canissian prescence will surely upset some. The past exploitation of various colonies (frequently through third-parties) by the Medieval-era "Caprican Merchant's Guild" may have left a lasting impression... although we did, also, sell high-tech firearms (for the time) to Vineyards for their independence movement.
Still, it is quyite possible that Canissia to this day enjoys some deeply-buried trade advantages (imbalances) kept under wraps with periodic hush money to well-placed buereucrats...
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around! If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!! Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!
