Ah, Damn Shroomanian comic books. I Imagine Japanistan has a thriving black market like other authoritarian regimes, selling to elites if nothing else. The question is, does most of the populace believe in the system and have hope for the future? The answer might tell you just how much corruption there is.

I'd say it would appear from Sea Skimmer's OOB that most people probably are fairly happy with the system, as the government appears to be able to deliver economically. I do bet a lot of school administrators and such receive bribes to let students into the more elite schools though. And the cop in that little story sounds like a total douchebag .

That story is in the New Sumatra Special Security Region, which owing to its status as an annexed Co Prosperty Sphere member rather then a part of Japanistan proper (not to mention the lingering insurgency) is treated more harshly then the rest of the country. It’s what real life Korea was to the real Japanese Empire, though its need more closely integrated by this stage then Korea ever was. The plan to Japanistanize Sumatra is three approaches combined, involving settlement of ethnically Japanistani peoples on the islands, economic development to benefit the local population and Japanistani industry alike and military and police eradication of all subversive elements, however trivial they may seem. The Special Armed Police are multi facted and act as an equivalent the ATF/FBI/Gestapo/SWAT all rolled into one mega agency, Japanistan also has the Kempeitai Army military police who patrol the streets around some major military bases and other sensitive areas and handle the most secret of cases.

In mainland Japanistan proper censorship is slightly more relaxed, and standards of living are decent and rising so people don’t have huge reason to complain about how authoritarian the regime is. Obedience to the god emperor is drummed in from birth, and just like real Imperial Japan creation of obedient subjects with ‘approved moral values’ is the first priority of the school system, above general education. But Japanistani school kids are no slouches, they have time for authoritarian indoctrination AND math by simply working really long hours.

Large areas of mainland Japanistan are open to foreign visitors, but visa applications aren’t quick and may come with all sorts of restrictions. we're not in one, per se. as of this moment klavo isn't on. if you could perhaps PM us your AIM (it's not readily available from your profile, is it?), i could coordinate setting up some kind of southern-Frequesue room, which can then be expanded into the FTO room as a whole.
