The Force Unleashed Demo

Post by The Vortex Empire »

The demo was released today on Xbox Live. Anyone played it yet? From what I've heard, it's great.

Dunno what sources you're citing, but I just looked on the marketplace and it is nowhere to be found.

I'm playing it right now. It is there. The Force Unleashed. In All Game Demos.

It's under "The Force Unleashed" not "Star Wars : The Force Unleashed".

Other than a seemingly arbitrary forced QTE at the end and a somewhat dodgey lock-on system, it seems like a balls (and everything else not nailed down) to the wall (after being Force thrown) game with nigh-endless replayability.

Well, that was absolutely awesome.

I echo the lock on system being virtually worthless, it has nearly no ingame functionality apart from opening locked blast doors that you can't just Pwn open with the force.

But then again, you don't really need it as far as I can tell, because simply pressing the right trigger grabs the nearest object/poor bastard and makes him your puppet/projectile, I particularly liked simply ripping stuff out the walls.

The combo system could be fantastic, I don't how much depth it goes into, but its simple and fun.

September 19th can't come quickly enough.

Lock on system is pointless, that's a button that could have been used for more awesome moves but nevermind because that demo was wicked fun.

I look forward to the full game with fanboyish glee.

Dropping a TIE Bomber on someone was perversely satisfying. :)

Can you dismember people like in Jedi Outcast? I don't want a lightsaber if it's going to behave like a light up baseball bat. I miss throwing a saber at them and watching the collapse into a pile of body parts. That's like the entire purpose of the stormtrooper corps (admittedly, being crushed, thrown like rag dolls and electrocuted are important job descriptors too).

It's a baseball bat, yeah.

It was entertaining, especially holding a stormtrooper up and letting a tie run into him. The tie fighter exploded on contact. Weird.

I was disappointed that the whole cutting a AT-ST in half was God of War-style Simon Says button pressing, though. For a game apparently about being able to do what you want it seemed depressingly limited. It was essentially the same 6 objects through the entire demo; troopers, droids, boxes, explosive boxes, barrels and explosive barrels. Though, I'm sure the full game with have a better variaty.

Anyhow, I just wanted to through a trooper through a window to see him and his buddies get sucked out into space. Can't wait.

Did you notice you could manipulate the walk way beams to put them in the way of incoming TIE Fighters in the sequence where they're firing at you? :)

It's basically Star Wars: God of War, but with the Force and without the Gore.

The fact that the lightsaber is a baseball bat is really jarring considering it cuts everything except people ...

It took me a bit to get used to throwing objects. I found out they fly in whatever direction they're currently moving, even if they're barely moving in that direction. Fortunately they autotarget enemies so it's likely that you'll hit somebody with them, just not usually the one you want if you're not paying close attention.

Also, I wish the bastard could just block while moving! He may be able to deflect an unlimited amount of blaster bolts while you're holding the button, but he refuses to move. This usually meant that a battle would end up with me blocking an endless stream of lasers while looking over everything, picking the closest stormtrooper, and charging him while losing health as soon as I move.

He blocks a couple shots, but when dealing with groups of enemies I generally do a dash to close the distance then use a push or lightning to disable some of them while I whiddle down the numbers. Or I choke one of the enemies in the back and throw my saber into him, thus cutting them all up at once (I did this with a whole hallway of stormtroopers, it was fantastic).

Heh. Yeah, I did, actually. It was something I noticed that my friend who played before me didn't. I should have included that.

I imagine deflection is something that will improve as he levels up.
