Naturally: that's their real base. The more experience I have with them the more convinced I become that the American Right in its present form is at heart little more than a giant con job by a bunch of greedy plutocrats to get the gullible plebs to vote against their own interests. All that morality talk is essentially just bones they throw to the useful idiots.
The depressing thing is it works so well. Fuck, it worked on me for a while, when I was younger and stupider.
Glocksman wrote:The GOP pilloried Kerry mercilessly over his refusal to sign one.
IIRC, he eventually did so, but after the election was over.
Bush signed one, so given the GOP's stance on releasing one's military records to the public, the question needs to be asked.
What's McCain hiding?
Reputable german news media ran a short piece on his military service. They said he was part of a unit that was reported to be "overly aggressive" and engaged in targeting infrastructure. McCain himself flew several missions bombarding Hanoi and also targetted civillian structures, such as power plants (if those can be considered civillians - certainly there were civillian casualties nevertheless).
Couple that with the fact that McCain has repeatedly states that the USA could have won the war had they been more extreme and aggressive and that his academy records do not reflect well on whatever intelligence he may have..and it is pretty easy for an opponent to paint a picture of a man with poor military judgement, little intelligence, who bombed civillians and advocated doing more of that kind.
Seeing as that picture would be very easy to paint, I would speculate this to be the reason why he is not releasing the records.
Or he simply wants it to be a private matter (although he certainly plays the POW angle a lot).

It's all speculation until we can read his Navy records.
Which brings us to the point that McCain hasn't signed a standard form 180, which would allow the Navy to release them.

What's McCain hiding?
Probably some really nasty and embarrassing torture shit that isn't anyone's business but the Navy's, McCain's, and those he chooses to talk to about the specifics.
You mean everyone who's asked him a single question in this campaign on any subject?
He's always been pretty vague and just said he was a POW and was tortured, never getting into specifics IIRC. I think the most specific he ever got was when he lied about the whole "starting lineup of Greenbay/Pittsburgh when they wanted my unit info" thing.

Doesn't work that way when you're running for the most visible office in the world. Quite literally everything in a President's history should be gone over with a fine toothed comb, and the fact that McCain won't make his records of what happened available is extremely suspicious. If he doesn't want that kind of attention paid to it then he really should at least stop bringing it up all the time.

C'mon. We have seen way more illogical positions during this campaign.

A photo of McCain holding a lightsaber will probably HELP his campaign by giving him geek cred. To ruin his campaign, you need something like a photo and/or video of McCain wearing a Schutzstaffel uniform and whipping, spanking, and/or dripping hot wax onto a prostitute or two.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Well, it depends. I don;t want to know about all the fucked up shit the Vietnamese did to the man when he was in captivity. But I agree he should stop using "A noun, a verb, and 'I was a POW'" is every response to every question about his fuckups.
Which goes right back to "should we be voting for a guy who was so fucked up by captivity and torture that it effects him to the point where he can't remember how many houses he owns?"

You're just playing into the whole POW thing, blaming his forgetfulness to the fucked upness of his captivity and torture.
His forgetfulness, like everything else, has nothing to do with his captivity and torture as a POW. His forgetfulness is because he's an old fart.
His captivity and torture as a POW means absolutely nothing.

One can spin his continual references toward his POW status as a credential to be the POTUS is a liability to this country. If he was any other war vet who
repeatedly makes this reference in most social situations, I wouldn't doubt that people would begin to feel a bit uncomfortable around him as it is evident that there are some psychological issues that have yet to be resolved ( or probably never) that will affect his emotional responses given the right stimulus. If McCain was a democrat running for president, the Neocons would spin this the same way as well.

Actually it's 'My friends, a noun, a verb, and POW'.

I think Democrats need to grow a spine and use a bit of mockery. Not as childish as what McCain did with the Paris Hilton/Obama ad, but ads which go right after his big POW argument, with captions like "Who cares about McCain's bad policies, poor judgment, and disconnection with reality? The man was a POW. He deserves your sympathy vote."

To reinforce the POW point some more, McCain should bring over some of the Hanoi Hilton staff, all expenses paid, to remind the ungrateful liberal media of how much he gave for the country in Vietnam.
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.
Yeah, but when it's a guy saying it, people can just attack the guy. Better to create "attack ads" with an anonymous narrator. It worked against Kerry even though they were just making shit up. In this case, they wouldn't need to.

Yes, but they had not connection to Bush or his campaign according to most of the media, even though that was blatantly false.
Meanwhile every person behind the ad you describe who wears an Obama pin would suddenly be a high level campaign staffer.

And the Fox Noise pundits were soon thereafter trying to link Clark's comments to the Obama campaign as some sort of premeditated, coordinated attack...
What a dumb slut. I love the even barest pretense of objectivity from a felon, traitor, and embezzler like Ollie North and of course giving the opening comments to the Republitard hatchetslut, and even opening her up by giving her questions implying stuff about Clarke. A better question is with such a rehearsed question-and-answer between you and Hatchetslut, was the entire q-and-a a Republitard hatchetjob.
