The only ones that had angles all over them were X-wings and Y-wings, both the A-wing and B-wing are more rounded, plus the ships of the era we're talking about are also rounded shapes (AOTC).

I've also begun the very tedious nurnie process on the engines, you can now see the actual start of pipes and machinery in the engine cutouts. That'll slowly spread over time. Notice too the R2 droid that I whipped out of my mates Y-Wing to let you see where the droid will go, although you'll have to give me a clue what an R3 or R8 looks like. I have R2, R4 and R5 units to hand, as well as Roli Poli Olie if you're feeling mental.
The R3 is an R2 dome on a body that has arms and such, there's a crude representation of it in the first picture I did of the O-wing. I'll probably have to come up with some superficial differences in the domes appearance for when it's in the socket.
I like the pic, nice transporter in the background. I'll add something about a pilot ladder as well in the vehicle write-up (probably the bit about the WM-1B upgrade).
[EDIT : added, plus a small section on the R3 itself]

Well you can always go to the other extreme and replace faceting with bulges and blisters. Perhaps make the canopy on the cockpit not flush with the hull, basically make it resemble like a modern fighter or Naboo fighter. As of the top of page 5 (text only browser, can't see anything since you updated) looks like a train with a cylinder around it. A combination like F22 style with faceted hull and round canopy could work. I dunno, only watched ANH and ROTJ, and a small portion of TPM.

Then how about a modernised version? Something like this:
30 years after the Galactic Civil War, R&K Coachworks was "aquired" by Sienar Fleet Systems in the hope of putting them back in the starfighter market after their disasterous collapse when the Imperial fleet's TIE fighter contract fell through after the Reborn Emperor's death. To this end, they immediately set to work modernising R&K's outdated -but still remarkably popular- O-Wing design in an attempt to compete with Incom's ever popular X-wing.
There's my 2 cents. (I like square ships too, y'see )
It's a little late in the day to start altering the entire shape of the major components, I can't just rub them out and redraw them I'm afraid. We've come this far with this 'version' so we may as well finish it now. As for faceted ships, there really aren't any. Most of the ships have rounded edges similar to the body on this thing, it's usually just the wings that have anything like sharp edges on them and we've not got that option as it's an O-shaped wing. As was pointed out, the only other sharp edges tend to be cockpit frames and we're a little far down the road to alter that.

I wouldn't want you to change it- it's not even mine! I was thinking of a future model. And I just meant sharper-angled cockpits, anyway.

The bulbous cockpit only works in a fighter where the pilot sits above the line of the body (so he can have an all-round view). So in the case of SW that only really includes the A-wing. If the pilots position was raised on the O-wing it would just look daft.

Well the review was written 5 years after the death of the Emperor. And SFS will buy out Rowil & Kenmit Coachworks, only over SFS's dead and mutilated corpses.
If you want a brand new angled fighter, then why not design one yourself? After all, you saw how bad my original sketches and Idea's were, and yet in the hands of a skilled artist it's become something I'm genuinely proud to be associated with. As Kenny has pointed out, the form of this ship is now set, but why not let your imagination go and create something yourself after all you then get all the fun of writing a history and such for it, even if you don't get a model. I say go for it.

Hence the comment in the Mock review about disparaging remarks saying it looked "like a Landspeeder rammed into an engine and weapons harness."

WM-1R; Concurrent to the "E", the juryrigged efforts of some Governments to make a Recce Craft from a "T" led R&K to make the "R" variant. Again Proper controls were fitted into the rear cockpit and the Port weapons pod was replaced with a dedicated scouting suite, the designers at Kenmit creating a mix of ESM mast housings and Camera pods that closely mimiced the layout of the weapons pod it was replacing. The only real visual identifier to an "R" at distance is the lack of an Astromech behind the cockpit, though upclose the longer fuselage is very evident.

Yeah guys, feel free to design yer own fighter or ship and if it looks funky myself or someone else might build it for you. When I can't think of anything myself I build other peoples designs for a laugh, I get a kick out of making people like yourselves smile and it's a break and a challenge at the same time. I don't have to think of everything and I try to make stuff I might not oherwise have done.
If I had designed the fighter myself it would have looked very different; a wider wingspan but with a smaller width wing and the engines mounted on a longer, squarer body with an angled cockpit and lots of internally mounted guns with just the ports showing. Then again that might look like a Z-95 with it's wings wrapped around it if I'd had free reign.
As it is this is Robs baby through and through, and it's usually a good idea not to design things like fighters by committee or you end up pleasing no one. With one hand on the helm and the odd helpful suggestion we now have a little fighter that's a bit different and pretty faithfully follows a vision.

Well I was hoping for something connected to either the Ring motif or a play on O-wing. Mind you, with those guidelines I couldn't think of a thing so your suggestion just went to the top of the pile - unless someone comes up with a good pun.

How about the O-Jeezus, here's a Star Destroyer coming!
Don't think I'll get much done to the ship tonight, I'm off Kung Fu-ing for a bit and then off down the pub so I'll probably animate another bit of the SW fanfilm and leave that rendering overnight again.
IRG CommandoJoe wrote:I dunno why, but for some reason that pic of the transport and the O-Wing reminds me of a farm.
I actually have that captioned as :
Early prototype WM-X ready for first Astromech Trials. Note that in this prototype, again the weapons housings hold mock-ups of the guns and in this case there is no landing gear. The original concept being to use reinforced panels on the bottom engines to allow landing on them. However subsequent to later trials it was found that the engine outlets could be fouled and the stresses on the cowling were counter-productive. In the background can be seen the cargo transport Ena, and the still being built test facilities for Rowil & Kenmit's new Weapons R&D Division. As with all early photo's of the WM-X this was taken by a member of the testing Ground crew with his private equipment, the quality of the shot reflecting this. (Image care of R&K Coachworks).

Don't you mean over R&K's dead bodies? And anyway it was just an idea. It could be KDY trying to expand into other markets or something. (Once again note that it was just a suggestion!)

Oh, and here's the reasons why I can't make one myself:
1. Even worse at drawing than you.
2. Don't have a scanner.

That's a crock, I haven't seen anyone worse than Rob at drawing!
You'll find a scabby drawing program built into Windows (assuming you're not a Mac deviant) and even toddlers can use that to make line drawings. You saw how bad Rob's initial sketches were, but once we got started the process becomes a bit easier as we have more and more to work with and refine. With a little practice you can produce stuff that's recognisable, and you'll only get better the more you use it.

Get Gimp (do a Google Search)! It's free, has lots of tools that windows Paint doesn't and is really easy to use. And I refuse to believe anyone draws worse than me.
Remember, the revised drawing I did for Kenny took me about 2 hours to draw, that should tell you how bad I am.

Just a note to say I've not forgotten the damn thing, I'm busy slogging away at the difficult and very boring texture work just now, updates in a day or so. Patience...
My webshite???? It's going to get ripped up and I'll start again in a couple of months when I get my broadband installed. No more pictures and stuff, just new models and animations. I haven't updated it in about 5 months, I've got a few new models to put on it yet.
As for the C-Wing, I believe I pointed out it sucks? It's pretty close to a Centauri fighter and about 10 other ships for it to be worth doing, I try to stick to stuff that's either...
1. Very Cool looking
2. Very funny
3. Very quick and easy to do
4. Unique
5. Will gain me sexual favours
