The reason is that a few posters are using the unweildly size to debate like a retarded chimp and makes it hard to actually prune the topic. To avoid that issue is to essentially make a new thread.

It's generally board policy to lock threads that go over 50 pages because of software issues. Once threads get that long, it becomes largely impossible to split out tangents/flamewars or merge in redundant threads.
