SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread II
IS anyone up for a state visit from/to Astaria? Steve if you've guessed my identity (and IC I'd be trying to figure out who's who), would you agree to a high level meeting say to discuss establishing mutual embassies or summat?

60,000 feet
Indophal
3am
The B-1C had been specially configured for this mission. It carried only a single bomb, along with 2 bomb bay fuel tanks.
"Target sighted," the bombadier called out.
"Proceed with drop," the mission commander replied.
The bombadier punched in the final corrections to the bomb's INS, then dropped it. It dropped rapidly in the thin high altitude air, before it hit the empty plaza. When Indophal engineers dug up the bomb, they could see that it was painted blue, with the words "We don't need a base in Frequesque to do this." written on the side.
Just kidding, I wouldn't honestly do that.

I figured I'd use this one, since it sounds less evil while still maintaining the spirit of the original. Though the original could be used as somebody's "interpretation" of it.

About rockets
Technically with the 1980s level engineering this should be shorter for both development cycles, but indeed at least 5 years are needed to perfect designs.
However, more perfect (precise-engineered) rockets like Proton-M/Breeze-M accelerator module can be created as a final result, instead of the more primitive 1960s' tech Proton-K.
And of course, work on R-7 and R-36 (meaning the work from R-5 to R-12>R-14>R-16>R-36 that took 5 years as well) is paramount to creating the "Energia" system and the Vulkan.
The Proton required 5 years from the engineering conception (UR-200>UR-500>UR-500K) and that was after the R-7 was already stable (and the whole cycle was a 1957-1966 span). So 2013 should see us on the Moon.

The red line represents the extent of what you intend to claim? Because Cascadia's Van Halstoff base is in that section of land west of al-Itani's western frontier.

Also, has anyone other than Baerne, Karmic, and Raj made a decision on Cascadia's offer to host a neutrality conference for Frequesue and great powers with interests there?

I'm actually harvesting and processing uranium at a middlin'-sized deposit in the Leicester Range mountains. Interestingly, it's the potential income of this deposit that led to the PRSF's failed invasion. The Duchess of Zeon wrote:A Duchy with nuclear carriers, Czechmate? Uhm? Even with substantial GDP growth a Duchy is not going to afford nuclear carriers ever, or cruisers. Nuclear research and development programmes for naval deployment just cost to much money. I'll allow the programme only if the nuclear vessels are reduced to conventional, and even then it's utterly insane, but in light of the CSR slamming through the PRSF like a couple Shock Armies hammering Georgia or something, yeah, I'll say it's not implausibly extreme.
ED: Oh wait, you're Beowulf's bitch now, so you can use his nuclear reactors. Is he paying for part of this, though? 10 billion a year is 2.9% of the GDP, which is probably already what you spend on the military or more.
I am aware I couldn't afford a nuclear program on my own, so I am actually using the same carrier design as Tian Xia, and the same reactor designs from that carrier for the cruisers (one each). Essentially, I'm providing the raw nuclear and mundane materials myself, and then building a carrier from blueprint.
The cruisers, however, are somewhat of an extended-hull variant of the DGN-52 (nuclear burke) destroyers Tian Xia is currently using, with an altered superstructure. Simply put, it's a replacement for the Ticonderoga.
tl;dr - all i had to do was import nuclear-materials processing and construction equipment for the creation of nuclear reactors built to blueprint with the assistance of Tian Xian nuclear engineers.

Just a quick question: What's that radar that fitted on the Arleigh Burke and the Ticonderongas that was meant to pick out sea skimming missiles, or did they do away with that?

I believe it was an AEGIS upgrade that allowed detection of sea skimming missiles. The radars used are the SPY-1D and SPS-67 (surface search with secondary use for low flying craft detection).Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:Just a quick question: What's that radar that fitted on the Arleigh Burke and the Ticonderongas that was meant to pick out sea skimming missiles, or did they do away with that?

Oh, I know it's you in-character and would probably like to get a chance to talk to you face to face and impress that it'd only help you if you adopted gradual emancipation, Veg, but in-character I also have to consider my own place, and Cascadia isn't going to be an ideologically-friendly state to Astarias.
Now, we could arrange a head of state meeting more, how should I say, carefully, perhaps a state visit by your nation to another and my arranging to be there around the same time. Then we're both guests of another head of state and any meeting would be seen in the light of being proper guests.

I'd like to buy a whole bunch of S-400 SAMs, enough to outfit at least two more Air Defence Groups (I've already S-300 in the existing three ADGs). That would be, uh, 2 groups times 4 battalions times 6 launchers... So, 48 launchers?Stas Bush wrote:FTO nations are welcome to buy the Slavic National Confederacy mainstay S-300 SAM system and last-generation SAM, the S-400 - for certain destruction of unwanted breakers of sovereign airspace. Even though I'm obviously not part of the FTO, I'll still be needing new SAMs to replace my MIM-23 Hawks nonetheless. How much do the S-300s and S-400s cost?
I ship Eino Ilmari Juutilainen x Lydia V. Litvyak.

Umm well actually that’s the extent of what Japanistan has always claimed, except for the chunk I just got Canissia to sign off on Japanistan ripping out of al-Akharabat. Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

All versions of SPY-1/AEGIS have had a dedicated capability to detect low level targets; normally the radar operates with some form of long range scan pattern looking for shit out to about 175 miles, while continuously sweeping out to 25 miles for low level pop up targets. IIRC the low level scan pattern always runs unless deliberately turned off to increase scan rates to detect ballistic missiles. Over time the capability has been improved by both radar and computer upgrades, but the placement (low because of the massive weight) and wavelength are suboptimal for the job overall. C band would work better, and will be used by the VSR on DDG-1000.Beowulf wrote:
