I seem to remember a Jaques Cousteau program about a scuba expedition to the South American lake Titicaca:
On a lark, a diver in a black and yellow wetsuit climbs out of the waters and waddles his way to the village on the shore...much to the horror of the villagers.
A mother smacks his hand away when he reaches out to touch a little child.
The narration concludes as the diver returns to the water:
"You better finish your supper, or the Black and Yellow Devil will rise from the lake and take you!", or words to that effect.
Has any subsequent team returned to this village to see if this incident had indeed been woven into their folklore?
