Stripping assets and transferring them to another company is actually illegal, that statement makes it clear he was in more than just debt. He was facing jail as well.

Agreed, but considering that he was illegally and dishonestly moving money around before he went on a kill rampage demonstrates that the prick was bad news: at least this poor bugger had the decency just to kill himself and not massacre the rest of his family (while his dispair was triggered by circumstances mostly beyond his control).
