Doctor Who Season 2 (28) Episode 11 Rewatch: "Fear Her&

Ladies and Gentlemen,
we are nearing the end of the rewatch threads. This is the last episode before the two-parter finale of Season 2. So watch as Rose has to deal with a missing doctor and a child in godmode.

As always, please post your ratings in your post. There were a bunch of ratings in the other thread which I have chosen to ignore. If people are too fucking dumb to post a one-liner thread with their rating (which oddly, all the people leaving a positive review did) they do no deserve to have their voices counted.

The rating for the last episode was a solid 3.9, making it the second-worst rated episode of Season 2, but still way above the season medium of S3 or S4.

For me, this episode is a 3. The ridiculous story is saved by the chemistry between the two leads, but thats about it. Rose and the Doctor interacting are the highlights in the episode - they are acting closer and more couple-y than ever before.

Other than that, this episode sucks.

I honestly thought that the episode had no redeeming features what-so-ever. The plot was horrible, the acting phoned in and the end scene was painful to watch.

[Stark]

This is one of those bad eps where I can really see what they were trying to do, and it's not a terrible idea. The execution, however, was terrible - iit's honestly like watching something from the 60s written by a teenager. Polished, it really could have been good, but... it's not. I say 2, because TV gets much worse but I would not choose to watch this episode.

[Hillary]

Pure filler, pure rubbish. I actually think this is one of the very worst new Who episodes. I'm trying to think of a single redeeming feature and failing. 2 - only for the Doctor eating out of the jar.

[Ford Prefect]

I'm going to throw a two out there as well. This was pretty drekky. Though not as bad as some of the crap we've been subjected to, I just found it lacking (especially after the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit two parter). This is a pity, as I thought the premise itself was pretty interesting.

[Bounty]

A 2 again. It had the core of a good idea but the execution was dull and the ending tried too desperately to be "inspiring", ending up looking incredibly overdramatic.

The plot was crap, but I liked some of the aspects not plot related. Some of the conversations the Doctor has with Rose, the little scene where the Doctor just randomly starts eating something from the kitchen, the one where Rose is saying how cute the cat is and the Doctor thinks she's talking about him and the last bit, where they talk about being together forever.

I actually voted 1, but I'd make it a 2 because of the above (and, as Stark says, there's much worse out there). The plot, however, and everything to do with it... utter shite.

I love the look she gives him when he starts eating marmelade.

And after that chemistry we got....Freema Agyeman. Which fills me with CAPSLOCK RAGE.

3/5 I'm feeling generous with this one.

The plot was so-so and I felt overly extended, the lead up to the Doctor finding out about the alien child could have been a bit longer. Both that moment and when the alien goes home both seem like they could have been the end. And of course the real ending was both hammy feel good and exceptionally unsubtle foreshadowing.

On the plus side, everything that wasn't plot related seemed fun to me. The Doctor's quips were amusing: What's you game? Snakes and Ladders! and I rather liked the Council Chap and his secret council tarmac.

This episode left so little impression on me, it took me quite awhile to remember what the hell the story was about.

Upon rewatch, I remember it being strong to start, but very very quickly petering out and just filling time til the 40 minute mark or so.

Below average, but not Last of the Timelords or Journey's end bad. Just a bit dull and unmemorable. 2/5
