I know what you're on about, but I'm pretty sure it was just a case of the orks not taking lasguns seriously or something like that. Ambushing an ork war party with really, really noisy, flashy guns just has more of an effect on their morale I think.Peptuck wrote:Corect me if I'm wrong, but don't Armaggedon's Ork Hunters use autoguns on the basis that because the autoguns are louder and look and sound more powerful than lasguns, they actually do more damage to Orks, because they think they do more damage?

No, it is actually the Orky magic psychology stuff.
After all - what's a laser going to do? It's just light? Orks stand around in the light all the time without any issues, what could a laser possibly do?
Meanwhile - an autogun. That makes a big noise. A big flash. There's them tracer things. And its a bullet. It's a sharp bit of metal. Going REALLY FAST. A sharp bit of metal going slow (knife) does a lot of damage, so imagine what it going REALLY FAST will do!
Orks are reality warping crazies. Just deal with it.

Yeah, and going a little off topic, I suspect that the Orks will instinctively recognize and obey an Old One.weemadando wrote:Orks are reality warping crazies. Just deal with it.
All the greenskinned reality-warping crazies in the galaxy united toward a single purpose, with all the military manpower (Orkpower?) and industrial production ability focused toward a common good.. that'll be a force that would probably be in the same league as the C'Tan and all the Necrontyr, were they to awaken.
There are no Old Ones left, though.. not in the Milky Way, at the very least. And the Necrons are dormant.
Just a thought, though.

Erm, it's not just Orky imagination. The Armageddon-pattern Autogun really is a high-caliber beast of a weapon to the point where it could be considered a poor-mans bolter.
For reference, it's Dark Heresy statline is 1d10+5 I, a box-magazine of 15 rounds, and a weight of 8.5 kg (compare to 1d10+3 I, 30 round magazines, and a weight of 3.5 kg for a generic autogun).
