I may "rent" it if the interest is high enough.

I supposed I will have to start rapidly unlocking cars.

The cars are sorta balanced in multi, much more so than in sp. You'll get to the decent cars pretty fast.

Where are my fucking bikes?

It's the 18th (Thursday) and there's no Game Content to DL, nor is there an update.

Is this the case of scummy US dates being treated as real?

OK, Bikes are out and they're... Errr. Yeah?

It's not that they suck, it's just that they lack the depth of experience that you get with the cars. There's just races, no stunt runs, no marked man or road rage (which would have been crazy)...

That said, the night and weather effects are pretty well done.

Is there someone on the bikes, or does the game continue to be a post-apocalyptic future dominated by satnav-controlled murderous sentient vehicles?

Yeah, but the people instantly disappear in a crash, and the crashes have no real deformation at all, and most end almost instantly. Drive into a wall? You'll instantly respawn. Hit a car? You'll get the 10s lingering shot of your undamaged bike sliding down the road sans driver. It's really quite lame.

But as a dry run for bike implementation, it's fine. It's free, the bikes handle well, there's more events, and the day/night cycle is fucking cool. Out in the sticks with no light? It's pretty cool.

I'd like to imagine that they are planning more bikes and a full set of events for night-time (both car and bike) and that this is just a way of gauging the response to the bikes. Either way, I'm not going to complain about the quality of this free service.

FREE!

FREE! From MS and EA no less. How amazing.

I think the story that this is EA going "Fuck you GameStop!" is all too true.

I'm not impressed with the lighting system. Your headlight is a simple decal, and things that are supposed to be 'lit' at night (like signs, jumps, etc) simply have their lumenience set really high - they're not being 'lit' but any actual light source. It's not terrible, but it's very... 2003. The headlights down actually 'illuminate' anything, they just place a 'light' texture over the top.

I can only imagine how awesome the night is on a plasma, however.

Yeah, and I like how weather is just "we'll cut the clipping distance with fog".

Night races are DAMN dangerous as you cannot see anything except headlights and due to the camera angle these are often clipped out by your car.
