So, what's the subjective analysis? The game seems to suffer from Early Emergence Syndrome, in that a lot of the depth and content will be spread out across further releases, patches, and so forth to keep people interested rather than swamping them (blissfully) with character choices from the get-go. It also seems to look a lot like WoW in terms of play. But how does it feel? More PvP based? Less grind, more action?
I'd be interested in it if it was, I like the MMO format but I don't like MMO gameplay, I prefer to use it as a massively multiplayer skirmish game, and Warhammer Online seemed to indicate it was headed that direction when it was discussed before. But I have no way of knowing yet, and I'll go hunting for a demo.
So, anyone got subjective rantings and ratings? I'd love to test it myself, but they've got no trial, which I consider a mistake.

I'm having a blast with it. I've been levelling primarily off of constant scenario running with quests during the slow hours. Playing that way, it is indeed a skirmish game.
The game does have less levels than similar games, which means more gameplay and therefore time goes into each individual level, so in a sense it can feel like there's a bit more "grind". The teen levels slow down a bit, I've noticed, but as long as I can run scenarios it doesn't really bother me.
It also definitely feels rushed despite the delays, but that's coming from a closed beta tester, so I know what I'm missing. The trophy system in particular is not as advertised, something I was really looking forward to.
On the whole, though, it's very enjoyable. I can long on, queue up for a scenario, and have fun, get XP/renown, and loot all at the same time.

I'm not BCG, but I can answer this. Whoever hits the mob first gets loot rights and quest credit when it's killed.Stark wrote:man you're right people who don't wear armour are so rare in mmos and totally noteworthy
Hey BCG, I like what I've heard about the looting system. Can you explain how it works with regard to people not in your group who help out anyway?
The group leader has the option of changing loot rights, but the default is a need/greed roll. Say an item of choice pops up; you can either choose need or greed. Need rolls take priority of Greed rools, but whomever rolls the highest gets the item.
In Public Quests whoever contributes the most gets bonus points added to their dice roll once the PQ is completed. The more people that are involved the better the loot. Some of the best gear can be got through PQs, and it's another great way to get exp, since you get bonus exp for participating in each 'stage' of the PQ.

Like eyexist said, for normal "bash a mob until it dies" stuff, the loot is standard MMO fare AFAIK (it seems to work a little different in RvR and with warbands though, and I'm not totally sure how it works).
What you heard was probably in reference to the PQs, which do work independently of who's grouped with whom. There's about 9 PQs per zone (18ish if you count the opposing realm), plus a number of RvR things that work very similarly, such as keep raids.
The final roll for PQ loot at the end of the PQ is partially random, and partially based upon contribution points. You earn the points by doing damage, healing, and generally helping to complete the PQ. The more contribution, the greater the bonus to the roll. Usually half a dozen lesser (green) loot bags drop, with occasional better stuff (blue/purples).

For PQs everything is handled by contribution + random roll + the number of times that person has done the PQ. The group doesn't seem to enter into it directly; if there are 2 groups both will be judged on contribution, not "this group got here first so it's their PQ."
Many classes have group buffs that may increase their contribution while being in a group but it is possible for a solo player to get a higher contribution than a group of players if they work at it; a couple of times on my Warrior Priest I was trying to do a PQ that already had a group there, couldn't get any of them to invite me to join and it wasn't an open group, so I just did my thing solo and ended up getting first place contribution.
It's possible, even easy, to get shafted on loot in a PQ. My BO joined a PQ in progress just in time for the tier 3 fight and ended up getting the best roll and a purple belt -- I felt lousy about that but stuck around for a couple more runs to get influence and help others gear up. If you run the same PQ repeatedly you'll get something eventually though. I will say at that at lower levels it's generally not worth the effort because you change gear so much; I usually play enough to max my influence then head off, and if I get a good roll on the PQ chest I'm happy.

I've gotta echo tha brotha there, I've been enjoying the hell out of it. I'm playing a healer, and I'm MEAN in a fight. I used to play a holy priest back on WoW, and it's...distinctly unnatural to me to be able to mix it up to the level I'm able to in WAR, far more fun to play in PvP. There are certainly some issues around, I won't claim it's perfect, but in my own experiences, the overall fun of the game far outweighs them.

I'm fighting for Order on the European Burlock RP server. This game has the best guild system I've seen in an MMO. I was chosen to be the guilds first standard bearer, and the standard gives out some great group bonuses, it's very cool. However the standard costs 2 gold, and if you die carrying the standard it's destroyed. You can plant it on the ground, which allows the standard bearer to fight normally, but the enemy can try and steal it!
We had a great keep siege in Tier 2 last friday, I recorded most of it and composed a video for the guild members who weren't there. We had around 30 minutes of skirmishing before we were forced into the keep itself by a sneaky flank attack by the destruction side. We managed to defend the keep for 70 minutes. I was operating the boiling oil until they broke down the door and I have to say it does a huge amount of damage. If your interested in watching it, its 15 minutes long and 150mb. You can download it here:

I'm finding it a bit tricky playing as the Empire. Game's fun as hell, don't get me wrong, but the RvR scenarios at low level are silly as hell. Right, we've got two guys with cloth and rapiers, one healer and a bunch of exploding ranged guys and they've got oh god nothing but men with SWORDS FOR ARMS and healers pouring over the hill!
That said, I've still bagged a few, and watching an entire firing line of bright wizards cock-up at the same time raised a giggle.
For those who care, I'm on Dragonback Mountains (Open RvR, like there's another way to play Warhammer)

I've had no problem with Empire. Both my WH and WP have always performed extremely well in Tier 1, even if on a losing streak I tend to at least score a few kills and do some good. The WH in particular is a heresy-purging killing machine; I've scored 5 solo-kills in a round of Nordenwatch with mine. The only things that give me trouble are Black Orcs and Disciples of Khaine.

I'm tearing shit up in RvR with my character. I'm specced in Sacrifice so my health rarely drops below 75%. My groups love me too, as I can fight and heal at the same time.
I guess healers who actually heal are a rarity on my server.

Tanks I can tear up, ranged DPS I can usually tear up, barring a sorc riding max dark magic and getting lucky, healers...most I stalemate, Disciples simply tear me apart, and I'm STILL trying to figure out how. Melee...can go either way. Marauders are pathetic, I still haven't figured out if they're supposed to be a damage class. Witch Elves though...wow.

Playing a Warrior Priest? The theory I've heard as to why DoKs usually destroy WPs is more spellcasting knockbacks due to dual-wielding and more chances for their auras to proc. I've also heard complaints that DoKs just have better auras than WPs. I had a hard time with DoKs with my WP as well, and I usually did pretty well in scenarios or 1 on 1.White Haven wrote:...Disciples simply tear me apart, and I'm STILL trying to figure out how...
