ghetto edit:
The biggest hope of mine is that they manage to get decent actors, who can take these rough basics and turn them into memorable (or at least decent) characters.

any series that deleiberatly creates a regualar character just to have a sexy female is gong to be retarded IMHO.

its tells me they cant think of creating a character first and then just happen to have them be a good looking female.

why not have the hacker or the junior officer be female ?

Calling something retarded in a sentence where you mangle three words and fail to even start with a capital letter doesn't exactly put you in the best light yourself.

The hacker obviously can't be female, since he's supposed to have the whole angsty teen thing going, and it's a known TV convention that superintelligent angsty teens have to be guys. The junior officer can't be the eye candy because of the whole Military fraternization deal, which would prevent her from being all flirty and eventually sleeping with the aforementioned angsty teen nerd.

I'm thinking that these guys are indeed going to end up on the ship by writer's fiat, and that it's going to be JUST them, alone. It seems likely, especially with that female involved, that it happens as some sort of publicity stunt, where either they get trapped on the ship as everyone else evacuates or get beamed onto it somehow. This situation will probably be the cause of Cute Rich Girl's father's tragic death, in fact he may even originally be a passenger on the ship ala Shepard's commander in the first Atlantis episode.

Don't worry, these people know what they're doing.
This assumes Sheppard is actually a decent character rather than O'Neill Mark II. He carries the role sufficiently, but he's not original nor particularly interesting.

I suppose we can take comfort in the fact that they are least telling us they are going to use an O'Neill clone for the 4th straight time rather than pretending these are actually different characters.

This isn't to say that I'm writing the series off at this point. I plan on catching a few episodes. A lot of how this turns out depends on the actors (though the "younger audience" vibe doesn't send good feelings down my spine). I remain pessimistic, but will wait till the final cut.

That just means I cant type for shit.

I could mangle the entire paragraph and creating a character just for herto be eye candy would still be a sign of the writers being retarded.

what ! girls cant be angsty on TV ? what the hell was "My so called life" about ? Alanis Morrisette anyone ?

as for the eye candy.....you didnt read the OP link did you ?

Exactly what chewie said.

I keep thinking they're going to premiere the series and i'm going to be thinking "didn't SG-1 parody this shit?"

I know this is the early stages of the series, but this casting call is only reinofrcing my belief that they're making the same mistake Paramount did when ENT came on less than six months after VGR ended. Give it some time; the market's well saturated with SG material and we don't need a third series this soon.

No, he probably won't fraternize at all, or he'll be all super-passive about it like Shepard was with Weir. We've seen regulations triumph over love time and time again in the SGverse, and though it's something that irks me, I don't expect it to change.

I'm not sure of that myself. These people are (supposedly) going to be cut off from reinforcements (how long this lasts is...dubious), and from the sound of things will be a pretty small crew. Sending this limited pool of people to the brig for a "we're lost in space and I need a good fuck" romp probably won't happen. They'll be more liable to bend the rules.

No, 200 is definitely not lost on me. That's why I find this move of their so inexplicable. They sat there and made fun of the very concept. They had Cameron talk about treating sci-fi fans with some form of respect. A few short years later, and "hey, you know that thing we parodied back in 200...yeah that's a fucking awesome idea".

I agree on your basic point, although with ST the mistake was made already when they decided to run two series concurrently for such a long time. They should have waited until DS9 was finished and preferably a year or two on top of that... Starting DS9 before TNG was finished was acceptable, since DS9 was clearly a spinoff seris of TNG, but starting Voyager so soon after TNG was finished was just plain pushing their luck. And they got what they deserved for over-milking the franchise.

My thing is, the field medic is an officer? The second most senior officer there to boot? Seriously?

Does the SGC have something against enlisted personnel?

Oh and the usual thing. Most of the characters have got to be "Handsome", "Beautiful", "Smart and Sexy", god...how cliched.

As for Ronan Mk1A don't get me started.

Apparently so. It makes some degree of sense, it's an extremely high-sensitivity top secret program... and it's not like the previous series don't have Colonels leading fireteams.

Which totally explains the lack of NCOs in SGC working in the Gateroom and. . .Oh wait. . .

As of Season 7, his rank is Chief Master Sergeant, which he apparently rose to. Not sure what he started off at though.

I find it intresting that all but the team leader seem to younger then me (I'm 26 (well almost)) and tbh some of those sound a bit good to be beliveble (even by the standards of stargateverse) and btw what's so bad with people above 25 IIRC none of the orginal SG-1 members were that young.
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

If that trapdoor from "Threads" is utilized for SGD, then I'm out; I am fucking fed up with the Legos from hell, their Pegasus counterparts, and any other iteration.
