Computer won't start

So I was minding my own business, playing TF2, and my computer just shuts down. As per usual, I figure it's heat, so I crank the fans and hit the power button.

On boot, I get one long beep, which doesn't correspond to anything that I've found online. Running an Asus motherboard with a Socket AM2 CPU and NVidia GeForce 8600 GT.

Could it be a power supply issue? I've had a PC cut out on me like that and refuse to start because of insufficient wattage.

I would have had to blown a rail or more for that to happen, and fans or HDDs wouldn't start. Not to mention that it's nearly impossible to blow a rail during constant load.

Something similar happened to me a few years ago. When I called ASUS tech support they said it was a BIOS(?) issue and had me remove the battery and switch a jumper for 30 seconds. Worked like a charm ever since.

I've tried resetting the BIOS and CMOS to no avail. I've also tried reseating the video card as well. If I can't get it started by tomorrow morning, I'll probably take a trip into the city to see if if the place I bought it from can fix it (most of it should still be under warranty).

Also, edit of OP, it's a 7600GT, not 8600, not that it really matters.

It could be a ram issue. Have you tried re-seating or switching the ram?

Go further than that...If you have more than one RAM, Pull one and try to boot it. If that does not work, remove that one and replace it with the other. I had a RAM Chip just die a few months ago. Most memory companies also have lifetime warranted

Catastrophe averted. I'm up and running again. I haven't run memtest yet, but at least POST sees 2gigs of ram. Something tells me it was heat (the fact that it shut down in the middle of TF2 is evidence of that), but usually it's a continuous high low warning, not a single repeating beep. And it also took much longer for it to be bootable again.

Oh well, as long as I remember to crank two of the fans before doing something CPU/GPU intensive, I should be fine.
