Wrong. Chess owns. I was on the chess team, but I quit after a while, because all the cool guys that started the club graduated.

I ran Cross Country and Indoor Track for 4 years in HS. I was also on varsity Tennis for 3 years. Independently I fenced from 6th-9th grade and briefly at Maryland before I left. I am also member of a amateur cross country organization in HoCo., the Striders.

Uh-uh. Tactical Wargaming. Wooden Ships and Iron Men, anyone?

I did gymnastics in early elementary school, baseball though elementary, soccer in elementary and middle, and marching band in HS. Anyone who thinks marching band isn't a sport should try keeping up with a practice when we did full run-throughs. We had football players on the team who said band practice was harder than football practice.

Yeah, but my high school team would have owned any of your high school teams any day of the weak, expecially when it came to x-counrty :P . Every year that I was on we had at least 10 guys under 5 mins. Just lil tidbit to see what you're up against.

Nah, Go involves a lot of strategy too... I used to play it when I was younger, and got quite good. Too bad I lost all that skill from not practicing

Except us asthmatics. I've got allergy-induced asthma. Induced by grass. It really sucks during summer when people cut their grass every three or four days. I'll stick to my martial arts, thank you. Those are indoors, where it's safe.

Some schools requires try outs. They tend to be the sucky schools for some reason, maybe cause no one could actually run when they first start off but after about a month or so gets into the rhythm. A reason that track, cross country is popular is cause a lot of people from other schools (not the case for my high school) does track in between their main sport. Running is a lot bigger commitment then most people thinks it is for some reason, or at least it was for my team.

Edit: Is it just me or does it seem that whenever I post in a thread the thread just dies?

Track and X-country. I had a weird combination, considering I did the Long Jump and Triple Jump in track in the spring, and X-country in the Fall. I wasn't bad, just decent. My longest LJ was around 19'. My longest TJ was ~42'. My fastest 5K time was around low 18's. Fastest 10K time was 39:46 me thinks. Could of ran faster though, but having a heart problem is well, a problem. Oh by the way ArmorPierce, what state do you live in and when did you graduate highschool? I'm asking this because I live in California, and a highschool in this state would be blessed to have 10 runners running sub 5 min. mile. California has the crappiest athletic funding in all 50 states. California currently is the only state who's vast majority of public highschools have crummy dirt tracks. Not only that, we are the only state who does not allow metal spikes to be used in X-country meets.

I was forced to undergo sport education in all my 13 years in school. YOu have to be either on the brink of death, and/or have a helpful doctor to not go. It's unfortunately mandatory.

And now that I'm at the university, I don't have to do any sport.
I'm soooo happy :)

I was on my middle school swim team and later on the Canadian National swim team when I was in high school. I wasn't on the high school swim team since that would be quite unfair to everyone else. After that I got a swimming scholarship to Princeton and swam for them, and I hold the university record there to this day. I would've loved to make the Olympic team but I wasn't quite good enough.

I played rugby in senior school.

We sucked. We played 2 games. Lost 31-13 and then 69-0 or 79-0 something like that. We were simply too small compared to our opponents and they steam rollered us. Every tried stopping people who are 6' odd when you're only about 12 or 13? God only knows how they got so big that young.

After 2 games we kinda gave up because it was a waste of time. It's hard to motivate a team that knows they're going to lose and lose hard every time they play.

I was on the basketball team in jr. high...er, middle school. It was jr. high when I was there (7-9). Was a starter my 9th grade year. G/F and played with two girls what then were over 6' tall.

And if anyone remembers Danny Manning who went to Kansas... He went to my jr. high. Would have been at my high school had his dad not sold out and taken the assistant coaching job at Kansas to make certain Danny went there.

I used to play in my school Rugby Team and after school i went to Kickboxing clases. Then i snapped the ligaments in my lift knee and sport became a painful memory. I also discovered that while the goons in the team played rugby i could sneak off home 2 hours early.

I'm was from NYC, graduated 2002 (last year). We were the best x-country team and we were in the top 3 for indoor and outdoor season (only because the other teams had a whole lot of field eventers, which we had little of) in the city so it ain't like my team was the norm here, actually, I think that most teams sucks here. Running sub five didn't guarantee you a spot on varsity cause of the problem of 9 other guys being able to do it.

Edit: Oh yeah, our field was located a mile (or more) away from my school and was acutally located in front of another high school. This is cause before my school had bouht the area it was a parking lot that belonged to the school in front of it.

Alrighty ArmorPierce, time for me to make you feel nice and humble. :P

In the 4 years that I swam for Princeton University, our team was undefeated in league meets. That's 32 straight wins if you wanna count them, and we won 4 Ivy League and 2 divisional championships. We were and still are the best swim team in the northeast and the current win streak stands at 38. Bow down to the almighty Princeton women's swim team! Did I mention I hold the university record for the 400IM? Hah!

I was a benchwarmer for the basketball team in 4th grade, and for a little bit of 5th (I quit after that). I stayed out of sports until 8th grade, when I became a confidence booster for the track team: No matter how bad someone else was, they were at least better than me.

Got coached in badminton by a national player when I was about 11...got pretty good at it...the only limitation was my then plump physique. In high school, gave soccer a go, but didn't really get good at it because I was trying to play striker when I didn't have the instinct. I later discovered that I work better as a wing-back, but by then I already started out in volleyball, and was playing for the school team.

Now am playing volleyball for the University College, London, team. I'm the shortest guy on the team, but I play libero, so height doesn't matter much for me. The main irritation is that everyone looks at me whenever the ball hits the ground, whether it's my fault or not...yeah, guys, like I can hit the deck fast enough to save a dink 10 feet away.

Well thanks for knocking me off my pedestal :( . I set a good amount of school records at my high school but as a freshman, I have pleanty of time. Oh yeah, my high school team went undefeated in league events for two years strait, would have been four years but we somehow ended up getting victory snatched away from us somehow, the first year I don't know how and the second year cause one of our top varsity guys tripped and fell into some rocks and was injured so we ended up coming second by 3 points  .

I practiced with the football team for two weeks before I got sick of getting blasted into the grass every ten minutes by guys younger than me and twice my size.

I played little league baseball, and managed to get four different pitchers to hit me with a pitch in the same game. I also played right field, and once ran full-speed into a waist high cyclone fence while chasing down a fly ball.

I played goalie on a local floor hockey team, and my career ended when I took a slapshot to the face and got a mild concussion.
