Does anyone know a good site for freeware 2d spaceship type textures?

Never heard of anywhere doing that kind of thing, it's more 2D textures used by 3D artists that you will find. I can maybe direct you to somewhere that does that, but nothing specifically aimed at 2D illustration guys. All the guys I know use gradient fills to simulate 3D shadow and draw their own textures and maps in layers so they can alter the opacity settings for various effects.

I have a couple of friends who make specific 2D drawings for me that I then use as textures on my 3D models, and in return I sometimes make models and pictures for them. I can ask them if they know of anywhere, but these guys don't kitbash as such, they do it all from scratch. I fear you may be on to a loser here.
