As the tiny stuff is just annoying I think it's not a bad idea to start a thread for the discussion of return of the Asgard.
Firstly now that I know I can clearly see the Nordic influence in the armour design, however I never suspected the Asgard before.
I always wanted to see less good Asgard though.
The name of the episode seems to suggest a group of Asgard which are different from the Thors faction, as we know that Asgard had different opinions about things like dealing with the Tau'ri it seems not that far out that a faction split of once upon time, maybe a short while ago but the name has more a long ago vibe for me.
I hope Odin shows up.
As Thor is not the top Asgard in mythology maybe they are in fact the main Asgard faction and Thors a splinter faction?
Have they always been in the Pegasus galaxy or arrived recently, maybe attracted by shit like a detonating star system?
How good as their technology?
Their hyperdrive seems rather advanced, an emerge that "close" to a planet has never been seen before IIRC and only the old Replicators have entered hyperspace that close to a planet. I suspect it's not completely without risk though as they did not bother to do with when they appeared over the iceworld.
Their armour seems less advanced than the one Anubis created and their personal shield weaker than the Goa'uld version(although maybe it's not vulnerable to slow attacks). It also looked like the guy had to lean into the shield.
They did not beam their troops down, but maybe the know about transporter jamming or their suits are unbeamable on purpose.
Some things I would like to see.
Discovering that the one guy that got left behind was in fact only an empty suit only brought along to cover their retreat.
In the long term I would like to see a massive defeat of the Tau'ri, it's about time and with the series ending it should be no real plot problem to blow Atlantis to hell and the Tau'ri back to their home galaxy.

One question, why da fuck are these rogue Asgards fighting the humans? Granted they are probably rogue, but come on ain't the Asgards one of humanity's strongest allies?
Unless you're telling me that this splinter faction has never heard of the humans before (probably separated from the main faction before First Contact with humans)...

As I said in the other thread, I'd preffer if these Asgard had semi-benevolent goals, even if they're completely unprepared to work with humans. It might be amusing to see them 'correct the Asgard High Council's Mistake' and take all those shiny toys away (well, not all of them, that'd be an irritating retcon; but attempt to.

As I also mentioned in the other thread, I think it would be awesome if this faction are the Asgard equivalent to foot soldiers and not super scientists like Thor et al.

We have seen a renegade Asgard before, it's just a little step from Loki to a group who does not give a shit about humans.Rommie2006 wrote:One question, why da fuck are these rogue Asgards fighting the humans? They did not kill humans directly so far.
Collateral damage was always acceptable for the Asgard, there were enslaved humans on the side of the Gao'uld after all.

Eh. We've never heard of them killing anyone not bearing arms against them. Until now.

Wow, I should not have watched that.
My question now is, have they overcome the cloning issue? Do they even have the issue?

Re: Re:
Methinks that Asgard tech, coupled with the access to whatever tech the Ancients had floating around when they pulled out of Pegasus, may very well have solved that. But that of course begs the question if so, why didn't they share it with the main Asgard culture? Or perhaps the suits are a life support system for overcoming cellular degeneration. Either way, we'll know in another week.Luzifer's right hand wrote:That's just one small step for Asgardkind though, not a gian leap.NecronLord wrote:

Did Thor state how long the Asgard had left?
Maybe this Lost Tribe has the same issue, but didn't choose the rest of the Asgard's Major Kong strategy for leaving the universe.

Well, the short term problem was a plague in their population. That shouldn't affect these guys if they were cut off.

The Asgard's problem was genetic drift that made it impossible for them to reproduce any further. Unless these guys split off a long time ago, they still have that same problem.

I'm guessing they either split off prior to the problem somehow, or found a way around it, perhaps with the suits. This "new enemy" wouldn't be terribly frightening in the long term if they were on death's doorstep. I rather assumed that these Assgard (my preferred name for them, at the moment, given their lack of giving a shit about other life) were going to be an enemy similar in function to the Ori, in that they were to possibly replace the Wraith as enemies similar to the Goa'uld being replaced by the Ori had the show gone on past season 5.
It's Jodan, not Jordan. If you can't quote it right, I will mock you.

The Asgard weren't all dying from a disease already. According to thor, the plague was created by their "Final attempt" to solve their cloning problem, so these guys should be alright for the short term.
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

Gah!
Ghetto edit:
Eventually, they will have to solve the cloning problem, or else they won't be able to sustain their population, let alone increase it, but they might not end up with the same disease that caused the Asgard to blow themselves up. That could've been a good finale if the show had gone on.
Picture this: The war with the "assgard" (heh heh. I like that) reaches a boiling point when their degradation problem becomes to serious to contain, leading to a massive offensive to conquer other races and steal their tech to see if they have a solution, or just outright conquer them and use them as experiments, new host bodies, or force them to devote their entire planetary economy to solving the problem.

Of course, for all we know, these might be robot asgard. It's certainly a proven technology in universe.

Re: SPOILERS SGA:The Lost Tribe (New Enemy) Teaser SPOILERS
So I was thinking about the reappearance of the Asgard today and I can't help but think that they lost an opportunity here to put a face on that alien ship we saw in the episode "Grace" when the Prometheus gets attacked and has to flee into the Nebula.
