Transformer toys you want to see

Post by Sidewinder »

Counter-X article on Machine Robo/Gobots wrote:Here the line took a change of direction, and with rare exceptions the toys would now almost entirely be based on real-life (and usually contemporary) vehicles. Many of the designs were taken from ideas submitted by children. The Machine Robo Series would eventually run to 54 figures, with additional recolours sold as 'Best of Machine Robo' 5-packs.
Bandai currently focuses its 'Machine Robo' line on the Mugenbine series (a collection of parts you assemble, disassemble, mix and match, and reassemble to alternate forms, like Legos), but the rights for 'Gobots' (the Americanized version of 'Machine Robo') is now in Hasbro's hands. If Hasbro decides to resurrect the "children may submit ideas for the designs of transforming toys" program Bandai had, what would you submit?

Please submit ideas that have NOT already been turned into a toy; that means no F-15 Eagles (Leader-1, Starscream and his brothers), no Tyrannosauri (Grimlock and 'Beast Wars' Megatron), and sadly, no Iowa class battleships (there's already Man-O-War/Battleship Robo) or Saturn V rockets (Apollo Robo).
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

An aircraft carrier. All the aircraft he carries could be drones of some sort or something similar.

A guitar. Which uses the strings as weapons.

Not sure how to pull that off as toys but there you go.

The aircraft carrier was done in G1 with Broadside, but it would be neat to see it as a modern figure.

Animated Soundwave comes with a version of Laserbeak that transforms into a guitar.

Personally, I'd like to see them using older vehicles; classic cars, prop-driven fighter planes, etc. Gobots did a few of these back in the day but Transformers has been sticking pretty much entirely with more modern stuff. Not everything has to be a current, state-of-the-art piece of military hardware or a brand new $100k sports car.

Oh, and a Zamboni, just 'cause.

I've been describing toys I want to see in my fanfics, which include a Yamato class battleship that transforms into a Giganotosaurus (named after Trypticon), a WWI-era Sturmpanzerwagen A7V that transforms into a Utahraptor (Scales), Sopwith Camel and Fokker D.VII biplanes, etc.

The REAL moneymaker's a crossover with the 2005 remake of 'King Kong'. It's obvious: Optimus Prime (or Primal) transforms into Kong, Megatron into a Vastatosaurus rex, and maybe a handful of Cybertronians that transform into biplanes for the Battle of New York.

Maybe Hasbro can convince Fox to authorize a Decepticon that transforms into a xenomorph (H. R. Giger's alien), have it fight Predators, and make an 'Alien Vs. Predator' movie that doesn't suck ass.

Didn't know that. I guess it shows just how much I pay attention to toys these days.

Don't you mean Predacon? If you want Decepticons, have them masquerade as United States Colonial Marine hardware; the APC and dropship are obvious choices, though a Sulaco Decepticon would be especially badass.

It's logical extension of the Transformers Crossovers line: GI Joe Transformers. Transformers that turn into GI Joe vehicles that are usable by the 3 3/4" figures!

Some weird and goofy possibilities that I'm fairly certain haven't been done:

Tsar Tank

Convair POGO

Dobbertin's Surface Orbiter

T-29 or T-95 or whatever the hell the Army wants to call it this week

Someone has already mentioned the Yamato.

How about as a part of that also have a Gato-class Submarine and a Yorktown-class Carrier? What about a Tranformer of the Kaga? It would be fun to perhaps see a Tiger tank and a T-34 as well.

The Dark wrote:Tsar Tank
As cool as it seems to have a tank transform into a robot bat (that was one of its Russian nicknames), the online sources I've seen describe the Tsar Tank as a total failure that literally got stuck in the mud during road tests. Tsar Robo (or whatever you want to name it) will be even more useless than Scooter, whose small size at least gives him the option of HIDING from the Renegades/Decepticons.
Convair POGO
Unconventional, but if the animated series' scriptwriter can make the Pogo-based Transformer a likable character (and you MUST have a cartoon to promote the toys, or kids won't ask their parents for these toys on their birthdays and Christmas), it'll work.
Dobbertin's Surface Orbiter
The pictures on the link you provided instantly reminded me of Highway Robo. No offense, but if you have any ideas on how to PREVENT fans from associating a Surface Orbiter-based Transformer with such a lame Machine Robo/Gobot, I'm all ears.
T-29 or T-95 or whatever the hell the Army wants to call it this week
You mean the T28 Super Heavy Tank/T95 Gun Motor Carriage? Yes, it will be badass.
Isolder74 wrote:How about as a part of that also have a Gato-class Submarine and a Yorktown-class Carrier? What about a Tranformer of the Kaga?
Assuming you're referring to the IJN Kaga, it and the Yorktown-based Transformer might work if Transformers Universe versions of Zero and Bent Wing (the F4U Corsair-based Gobot; feel free to provide a name that doesn't spell "LAME" in capital letters) accompany them to the market. As for the sub, it might work if you can give the character an identity NOT as lame as Dive-Dive (personally, I'd use the WWII-era "wolf pack" tactics to have the sub transform into a predator, like the Dromaeosaurid I suggested for the Sturmpanzerwagen; or use a subs' stealthiness to have it transform into a robot Snake Eyes).

You could call a Corsair Transformer, Black Sheep. After the famous Black Sheep Squadron who was known for using the aircraft.

Isn't it already a robot? What's it going to do, flip up a face?

What we really need is a modified DeLorean that transforms into a robot that looks like Christopher Lloyd. Or maybe a GMC van that transforms into Mr. T.

By MiG-35, do you mean this variant of the MiG-29, or a proposed designation for the MiG 1.44 MFI? If you mean the former, I support this notion for the chance to get a 'Transformers Universe' version of Gaihawk (a MiG-29) AND his teammates, so we can form Liokaiser. If it's the latter, that's still cool; I've used the MiG 1.44 as Starscream's vehicle mode in a fanfic.

France does NOT use the Eurofighter Typhoon, France uses the Dassault Rafale (already represented by Hellbat. The damn frogs WERE on the Eurofighter development team, but when their partners (the UK, West Germany, and Italy) refused to bend over and take it from them, they quit. The Eurofighter Typhoon's users are (and will be) the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Saudi Arabia, and Greece.

No, but I share Drooling Iguana's skepticism. Hell, the BattleMech franchise ALREADY has Transformers (they're called Land-Air Mechs, or LAMs).

Didn't we have star wars toys which transforms?

With that in mind, a special edition with robots which transforms into ships from other sci fi series. I particularly thinking of Trek versions and B5 ships. I suppose you could do Doctor Who. I would go for a robot which transforms into a dalek and then into a dalek saucer (but I have no idea how you would do that since they look so different).

Update on the Kaga class carrier-based Transformer: since the carrier itself was based on the cancelled Tosa class battleship, how about a carrier that, once its aircraft are launched, folds away the flight deck to reveal gun turrets, becoming a battleship? And as the battleship sails towards the beachhead, legs extend from the sides while the prow splits to reveal a mouthful of teeth, becoming a robot crocodile?

As the Kaga isn't the only ship to be designed as a battleship/battlecruiser, but redesigned in light of the Washington Naval Treaty, we can also apply the battleship-carrier-crocodile design to Allied (Autobot) ships. If it's American and commanded by a F4U Corsair-based Transformer, we can paint Jolly Rogers on the flight deck, on top of the gun turrets, and on the sides, so they'll be visible in all three modes.

Some nerd bait I found while browsing Deviant Art.

A transforming Mach 5 (from 'Speed Racer'). The same artist also drew one based on Racer X's car.

Optimus as a Transfarmer (the lame ass pun wasn't my idea).

A transforming Immigrant (Kaneda's bike in 'Akira').

More redundant than a Transformer with two beast modes and NO robot mode, like Icebird, whose robot head is literally shoved up his ass! And even this is better than Transformers that cannot transform (cough! 'Action Masters' cough!).
