My only remedy, which I will exercise in November, is vote "NO" for every incumbent I can and write in Chuck Norris for President.
"Bailout plan NOT pwned" is right. So is a topic title change to "American taxpayers pwned!"
I'm guessing that in six months or so we'll to get an inkling of just how much fuckitude this bill really has.

Okay, which House members changed their votes the second time around? Because each and every one of them deserves to lose his job.

This means the short selling ban expires after next Wednesday so now you know when the hedgefunds and other major investors are going to make their big move.

It's posted on page two of this thread. Thanks; I'll compare the lists. I've been cutting together a video for YouTube calling for the ouster of everyone who voted aye on Monday, so the ones who switched sides today will get special call-outs. Perhaps call them the Coalition of the Bribed or something.J wrote:Here's the list for today's vote. Re: Bailout plan NOT pwned!
I've been mentally debating whether to post this, but I thought it was topical as well as morbidly amusing.
Todd Alcott wrote:My fellow Americans, today I would like to address the problem we face with America's hen-house.
Due to circumstances no one really understands, foxes have been put in charge of operating our hen-house. There will be plenty of time in the future to debate about whose decision it was to put foxes in charge of the hen-house, but the fact remains that the foxes have eaten all the hens and now we are out of hens. This is a crisis of far-reaching import -- American hens are the envy of the world and we cannot afford to be without them. I shall call this the Hen-House Crisis.
I have spoken with the foxes who run our hen-house and they have assured me that this is a crisis. Our hen-house must be filled with hens immediately or it will lead to a world-wide shortage of hens. That means no chicken dinners, no scrambled eggs, no Denver omelets, no feathered pillows. And that cannot be allowed to happen. The world turns to us for hens and hen-related policy.
And so it is up to each and every American to supply our foxes with more hens, to dig deep and sacrifice their hard-earned hens so that the foxes will have more hens to mind. This is the only way out of this crisis -- the foxes must be given more hens. It is the only solution to our problem, and anyone who suggests otherwise, well I have to question their belief in hens.
If the foxes are not given more hens, they will go hungry, and we cannot afford a nation with hungry foxes. Foxes are the backbone of our hen-fox structure -- foxes provide America with whatever hens they don't devour, and if we don't supply our foxes with an unending stream of hens we will have no hens at all.
My plan calls for Americans to supply our foxes with seven hundred billion hens -- give or take, on an ongoing basis, whenever the foxes ask for them, for whatever purposes the foxes see fit. This deal is non-negotiable and permanent, and our foxes will be under no obligation to tell us how they are tending our hens or when, if ever, we will ever see any hens again. Because we need so many hens immediately, this means that a lot of Americans who have never raised hens will need to learn to do so, otherwise our foxes will have no hens to tend. Some Americans may need to work an extra job in order to buy the materials they will need to raise hens to give to our foxes, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to demand.
I have been assured by America's foxes that they will be very wise and cautious in the stewardship of these billions upon billions of hens, that the hens we provide the foxes will be bred into even more hens, which will then, the foxes assure me, returned to the Americans who provided them. We will then be, I am told, swimming in hens, thanks to the very wise foxes of the American hen-house industry.

Okay, honest curiousity here, how can you trade at all without at least level one data? That'd tell you if there was any depth on the bid side. Not how much or how deep, but if there's a price there's depth.J,

I can do that for individual stocks and funds - my screener shows that. What my broker doesn't seem to have is a summary page that can show bid/no bid status for a market segment, or an advancers vs. decliners display. I'm fairly comfortable with my current investments, but market segment data would be useful to have.

The bailout bill was so successful that it tanked the US market by 4% or so from the time it was passed to the market close.

I noticed that too, as did a puzzled BBC correspondent in D.C. It's strange and ironic it should end the day worse off than before the bill was passed. Watching the news spin this as an end to the credit crunch is hilarious. I could only see it as propaganda, given how little actual discussion on the bill went on (no one goes into the actual problems with it).aerius wrote:The bailout bill was so successful that it tanked the US market by 4% or so from the time it was passed to the market close.

Re: Bailout plan NOT pwned!
Clearly, and I mean it should be really obvious to all, the bailout wasn't big enough so that's why the market went down. And if this bailout hadn't been passed the market would surely have had at least a 1000 point down day.Admiral Valdemar wrote:I noticed that too, as did a puzzled BBC correspondent in D.C. I'm sure we'll hear plenty of the above and more from our fair & impartial media over the next while. Perhaps they'd also like to explain how we went from the economy being fine and "we're in no danger of a recession" to "oh my god it's October 1929 if we don't pass the bill!" in a bit over 3 weeks.
In the meantime, here's a the bailout fallout in a nutshell.
