YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KCBS/AP) -- The second rock slide in Yosemite National Park in two days destroyed 7 cabins near the center of Curry Village at the east end of Yosemite Valley on Wednesday, according to a park ranger.
Ranger Erik Skindrud said three people suffered only minor injuries, but all accommodations in that very busy area of the park have been completely evacuated since that slide around 7 a.m. “We’re a lot less crowded than the peak of summer,” he said, “but there were a significant number of people.”
One witnesses, Julie Davies of Brentwood, said the slide was even larger than one the previous day in the same area near Staircase Falls just south of Curry Village.
No one was injured in Tuesday’s slide, but one cabin was damaged. Davies wasn't taking any chances. “My husband saw some rocks coming down, but we didn’t even have a chance to look because we heard the thundering sound and ran,” she told KCBS.
Curry Village can accommodate about 600 guests in several different types of lodgings, from hotel rooms and wooden cabins to tent cabins.
No other property appears to have been damaged.
