Is it the worm?

Post by Malecoda »

I keep getting emails from the site telling me there are replies to threads, only to find that it isn't true. This includes locked threads. I also find this going on: although the email says "won't be notified again 'til you look", it does just that so I get multiple messages abt the same thread. That part has been gg on for longer than there was a worm, now that I think of it. So what's up?

Are you asking if this could be a result of the SQL Slammer worm? If so, then no. The SQL Slammer does not propagate emails. Something like Klez does that.

I don't know, which is why I asked :) (You: well, that was why I answered, dork!) I don't know these things, but I see the screwy emails and hear the rumors so I had to ask.

I just was not sure if you were asking about the latest worm in the news or some other common ones. The worst one I ever had to deal with was Nimbda. We got slammed by it at work.

Slammer only hits Microsoft SQL Server, not MySQL.

I swear, it's like every week the news says "Microsoft had to release yet another patch to fix a security bug"
