I have to say, I like the looks of that "death from above" class...I was not happy at all with the way they ended the last expansion (...or the first game, for that matter), but this does have me a bit interested in the series again.

I see Blizz is still keeping the tradition of female characters in fantasy dressing like whores.

not that they're the only one

other then that it looks nice, too bad my PC won't probably run it.

Everybody does that. In Lineage 2, Dark Elves even run while bending over and sticking their ass out towards the camera.

Guess you can tell who the target demographic is :P

I really hope Diablo 3 will not continue Blizzard's recent fetish with GRIMDARK endings.

...Wha?

You mean like the happy-go-lucky (as far as fantasy worlds go) cartoony World of Warcraft, the only recent product to their name (which, being an MMO, does not even have an ending)?

Or the 7-year-old Diablo II which actually did end on a foreboding note?

I think you're getting your Old Cool Blizzard confused with Modern Lame Blizzard.

Err...do you remember the original ending of Diablo?
I hope that Blizzard learns to NOT write a downer ending. They've always put bad endings to their games.

World Of Warcraft was cartoony, but it continued at the point where Warcraft III ended with its grimdark EBIL WINS BECAUSE GOOD IS LAME ending. Then there's Brood War where everybody dies, and from what I hear, Starcraft 2 is going to be equally gloomy.

It's a bit tiresome :P

Huh...yeah, so it's not a recent trend it seems :P

IIRC, the Hero stuck the Devil Stone or whatever it was into his skull, right?

Do any computer RPGs have female playable characters who are not heavily sexualized? WAR? Guild Wars?

Female wizards in WoW wear robes?

Oblivion did. Most of the armor sets didn't expose T&A or incorporate metal g-strings.

Of course, the female chainmail cuirass had its sleeves removed for...some reason. Arms aren't important for women, you see :D

However, the Crusader's armor set for men and women did still have full armor and not a single revealing element whatsoever! This is because the male and female chestpieces were the same. But it was an interesting change. My gal looked boxy enough that I thought "Wow, it actually looks like she's wearing armor, not just silver clothing."

Nethack has Valkyries, and any of the Angband derivatives have female characters of any class.

Of course, it's kind of hard to sexualize an @ sign.

In Baldur's Gate you could only see skin if the lady was not wearing any robes or armour. In the the Elder Scrolls series, most clothes and armours are about the same for men and women, all the whore outfits are user made content.

While it's not finalised by any means, I'm very interested to see that the skill system they're talking about in D3 (frankly the only part I give a shit about, because I'm never, ever going to read any of the fluff) appears to be a mix of WoW and Sacred2 concepts - they've reduced the number of individual skills by implementing a skill-socket system (which appears more flexible than Sacred's, even better if it's fucking changeable afterward) which makes this type of game easier to play for noobs AND makes characters much more interesting. Even Sacred2's system (which has some problems and NO FUCKING RESPEC WTF) allows you to do widely different things in a way not usual for a game with 15 skills per char.

Yeah, other armor sets were like this, too. Minor differences at best.

Actually, from the looks of it, this character was reasonably dressed considering that her gear is not meant to be combat gear. After all, a wizard character is likely to protect herself or himself with magic rather than cumbersome armour.

Yeah but not all video games pander. At least we can all look at Beyond Good & Evil and Portal as the sole shining beacons of gender progressivism in electronic gaming.

Also this wizard (why are there almost never Asian males in games?) has unnecessary cleavage for no reason, that's kind of whory.

Actually, each class can be played as either male or female. I'll assume for the time being that the male wizard will have asian characteristics as well.

Edit: I also don't think that she has an unnecessarily large chest. Sure, the outfit might be a low cut, but unnecessary cleavage is beer wench shirts, not V-necks.

If the wizard follows the other classes, it should have a male version as well.

I was hoping for a male wizard this time (and perhaps a female witch class?)

I watched Blizzcon this weekend, the wizard looks pretty fun.

Why don't Blizzard just make the characters in both genders, and make it an option?

Err, they are. Both the barbarian and the witch doctor can be played in either gender. It seems unlikely that the wizard will be any different.

What do you think the odds are that we'll get male-wizard exposed midriff, though?
