So I just read WATCHMEN
In preparation for the up coming movie, my Boyfriend recently had me ready the original graphic Novel cover to cover... I just finished about 15minuts ago and wow... I'd never read something so deeply riveting, thought provoking, emotional, and relatively depressing. Throughout the whole thing I just was transfixed as the plot kept playing out.
It was also rather interesting that things i'd seen all over the place here suddenly make sense.. I FINALLY know who the weird guy is with the inksplot facemask... Hes creepy, quacked, and a hero, if a crazy one... There were so many times in the story that I simply KNEW What was going to happen, and ended up being totally wrong..
Im not going to say too much, because im sure theres others who haven't read it yet, I will say I deeply advise everyone to Read the book first if yo uare planning on seeing the movie.
One other thing... given the ending and "the Speech" given by the evil villian... I have to say hes the most badass awesome ''smart' villian Ive ever come across.

Dan, I'm not a Republic serial villain. Do you seriously think I'd explain my masterstroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome?Crossroads Inc. wrote:One other thing... given the ending and "the Speech" given by the evil villian... I did it thirty-five minutes ago.

Re: So I just read WATCHMEN
Considering what Stuart Slade has revealed about Kennedy's lies (specifically, the missile gap) and his decision to get the US involved in a war that Ike (and maybe Nixon, if he won the election) tried to keep the US out of, I think it's ironic (and evidence of Alan Moore's ignorance) that Ozymandias saw Kennedy as a "martyr" whose dreams of world peace were brutally cut short by the Comedian, when Kennedy was a worse warmonger than Nixon.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

*trying not to spoil things too much*
There were some parts of the villain's plans that seemed a bit too much.. Namely the methods/tactics he used to get people to do what he wanted... Noble intentions? I suppose. Method and means of getting there? Holy..!
Namely irradiating people to give them cancer to drive off Doctor Manhattan.. Killing people left and right to cover up his plan. I'm surprised he didn't kill the other heroes, with how he'd killed his two assistants in the last portion of the book; you know, poisoning them and setting up as if they'd died from exposure to the weather.. Why kill those two but not the heroes--the were arguably more loyal, hell they were loyal to him as opposed to.. well, opposing him? Seriously, the things he did were.. shocking, and more-so how calm and night-unrepentant he was about it.
If I were there, I would've given him a good couple punches to let off some steam. That is, several punches AFTER the whole showdown, to let him know he's still a grade A jerk.
One thing I can be sure of is that Rorshach's journal won't do much more than spout crazy conspiracies about how Ozymandias killed the Comedian, a villain, ordered his own (failed of course) assassination.. It won't do much other than convince people that Rorshach really was a psychotic vigilante with a penchant for conspiracy theories. And even if it is going to be published, it's going to be published by a.. less than reputable newspaper.

~Carl SaganI went to the librarian and asked for a book about stars ... And the answer was stunning. It was that the Sun was a star but really close. The stars were suns, but so far away they were just little points of light ... The scale of the universe suddenly opened up to me. It was a kind of religious experience. There was a magnificence to it, a grandeur, a scale which has never left me. Never ever left me.

OMG book reflects time during which is was written inconcievable lol
Frankly I'm surprised even Watchmen stands up to the pre-emptive wanking you get on the internet. Sure, it's a great book, but it's not Jesus. It's not that hard to be better than 95% of all comics; most comics suck shit right out of my ass.

That was the entire notion behind Ozymandias' character. It's an undeniable fact that Veidt saved the world, but he did so with frightening methods. There's no black and white there, nor was there anywhere else in the story (except in Rawshark's mind, of course).Garlak wrote:There were some parts of the villain's plans that seemed a bit too much.. Not outright, but it will plant the bug and the truth will be known. Someone, somewhere will look into the whole thing, perhaps in effort to academically deny Rorshach's ideas. Then there is the fact that someone, somewhere will take the idea seriously. Rorshach's journal is fairly direct proof to some extent.

Ah, but while it's not hard to be better than anything else out there, this example so far above everything else as to be in another universe. Were it not to lose a lot of its effect being put in simple novel form, it would be an excellent read that way too. Maybe it's Jesus' long lost brother instead.Frankly I'm surprised even Watchmen stands up to the pre-emptive wanking you get on the internet. Sure, it's a great book, but it's not Jesus. Rorshach. 'Rawshark' sounds like he's Aquaman's arch-enemy.Ford Prefect wrote:That was the entire notion behind Ozymandias' character. Stuart: The only problem is, I'm losing track of which universe I'm in.

Raw shark is something Rorshach is accidentally misheard as, in-universe.
